(November 20, 1951 –

January 13, 2025)

Donald William Simanton, 73, passed away January 13, 2025 at home in his sleep in Whitewater.

Don was born November 20, 1951 in Havre, MT to Bill and Jan Simanton.

After graduating high school, Don was a farmer, rancher, construction worker, and coal miner but mostly a cowboy who finally went to greener pastures following his wife Diana once again.

Don grew up on horses and never moved past horses, cows and a good dog unless the job paid enough to make it worthwhile. Don was an all-around cowboy winning at district rodeo, state one time in saddle bronc riding and qualifying for NHSR twice and placing second in bronc riding. He rode in the pro rodeo circuit for close to ten years and was proud of his win at the 18th annual Jordan Invitational matched bronc ride, riding against the best pros invited from a four state area.

Don married Diana Allen June 8, 1971 and they had two sons, William and Ian. They remained partners and friends for over 53 years until her passing last September.

He was preceded in death by beloved wife Diana, parents Bill and Jan and sister Bonnie Jo.

He is survived by sons William (Dot) and Ian, brothers Dale (Dorothy), Doug (Ronda) and sister Barb (Joe) and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Cremation will take place and a celebration of life will be announced this spring after green grass and good weather.
