The Malta Mustang basketball team fell 78-74 to the Glasgow Scotties in Malta last Friday, January 10.
The Mustangs are scheduled to face the Havre Blue Ponies on Friday, January 17, starting at 3 p.m. Malta fell to Havre 75-66 in their first meeting of the year in Havre on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
Malta is also scheduled to travel to Wolf Point to face the Wolf Point Wolves on Saturday, January 18, with the event starting at noon.
Malta was led by senior Bodhi Brenden in their effort against Glasgow. Brenden had 22 points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Treyton Wilke had 20 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Dawson Hammond scored 18 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists in his first game of the season.
Stockton Oxarart had six points, two assists, and two steals. Kash Stiles had four points and three rebounds. Kruise Stiles had three points. Regan Stuart had one point and three rebounds.
Malta jumped in front and led the Scotties 21-14 at the conclusion of the first period. Glasgow cut into Malta's lead in the second quarter, and the score was 37-33.
Shots inside were falling for Glasgow in the third quarter, as they outscored Malta 23-10 and led the game 56-47 heading into the fourth quarter. The Mustangs brought the game within one possession late in the game, but Glasgow sealed the game at the free throw line.
The Mustangs forced 17 turnovers that they were able to turn into 27 points. The Mustangs scored 16 points in transition and Glasgow had none. Malta had nine steals and Glasgow had two. Malta scored 34 points in the paint and Glasgow had 48.
