Lady Mavs Defeat Scobey in a Close One

The North Country Lady Mavericks outlasted the Scobey Lady Spartans in their lone game of the week. The score was 41-35.

Lady Maverick Head Coach Amber Erickson was asked about the win.

“Scobey is always a great rivalry game and beating Scobey on the road is never easy,” Coach Erickson said. “I was proud of how the team responded to a slow start offensively. We are getting better every week on both ends of the floor and executing offensively when we need a bucket down the stretch in these tough games.”

The Lady Mavericks (9-0,4-0 in 3C Conference) were led by Shelbi LaBrie in their win over Scobey (3-4, 1-2 in 3C). LaBrie had 14 points and six rebounds.

Gracie Wasson had 10 points, four steals, two rebounds, and two assists. Kodi McColly had six points. BaiLee McColly had four points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. CharLee McColly had four points, two rebounds, and two steals. Emerson Downing had three points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Scobey outscored the Lady Mavs 12-9 in the first quarter and led throughout the majority of the first half, but North Country was never down by more than three possessions. The Lady Mavs outscored Scobey 14-10 in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 23-22 lead.

Scobey scored the first two points of the third quarter, but after a steal by Wasson followed by an assist to LaBrie on a fastbreak layup, the Lady Mavericks took a lead that they would not give back for the remainder of the game.

The Lady Mavericks will host the Lustre Lady Lions (5-4, 2-2) on Friday, January 17, in Saco, with games starting at 4 p.m. The Mavericks will then travel to Nashua to take on the Nashua Lady Porcupines (1-7,1-3) on Saturday, January 18, with games starting at 5:30 p.m.
