One Nation, Under God

American Legion is Prime

On Saturday, Jan. 11, the American Legion gents again showed that they are a prime and fine group of individuals. They prepared and served prime rib dinner to over 60 individuals, some of whom they served through take-out meals.

Bonnie Wiederrick had her hands and heart full for several days while preparing for the dinner and when the grand finale was over, she was a grateful and thankful cook and wife. She had prepared the meal of tossed salads with several types of lettuce, croutons, and relish trays. When the 100 pounds of beef were placed in the waiting ovens, she had time for a breather. The dessert had been prepared earlier and added color to the meal.

Friends and family helped with the details and moral support while the strong arms of the American Legionnaires carefully sliced the prime rib which had sent an aroma through the town as a little reminder of the fantastic meal awaiting those who attended in the evening.

Chairmen for the donations and door prizes for the event were the duties of two, who have perhaps served more than one chairmanship, that being Jim Sintler and Ken Wiederrick.

A 50/50 drawing fundraiser was awaiting guests as they arrived, and the winner donated their winnings to the American Legion Auxiliary. Registration hosts were Vince and Carolyn Schmoeckel and they dispersed the door prizes after the dinner.

The date for the 2026 prime rib dinner will be January 10th, as it is usually the second Saturday in January. With the list of bugs and illnesses going around, the attendance was down, however the to-go meals are an indication that hearts desire to be there. The American Legion is most grateful for the continued support for their projects and is appreciative that the community supports the Veterans of Post 57.
