Lady Mavs Defeat Dodson, Frazer

The North Country Lady Mavericks added a pair of wins to their regular season record. One of those wins came against the Dodson Lady Coyotes last Saturday, December 21, in Saco.

The Lady Mavericks' other victory came against the Frazer Bearcubs in Frazer on Friday, December 20. The Lady Mavs won 68-24.

The Lady Coyotes lost 53-11 to the Scobey Lady Spartans on Friday.

Shelbi LaBrie led the Lady Mavs in their victory over Dodson with 17 points. Emerson Downing had 11 points, CharLee McColly had eight points, Kodi McColly had seven points, BaiLee McColly had six points, Gracie Wasson had four points, Kennedy Simonson had three points, Ainsley Erickson had three points, Berkeley Hillman had two points, and Lyli Bear had two points.

Dodson was led by Jazlyn KillEagle who had four points. Precious Stiffarm had three points, Kashton Siers had three points, and Tissie Webb had two points.

Though the team has a new look on the court and sidelines North Country has continued their winning ways, with a 6-0 record. LaBrie was asked about the team's success so far.

"I'd say the key to our success is just learning, because it's a totally different team," LaBrie said. "It's not a new offense, but our new offense is our new starters and reserves and figuring everybody out and trying to share the ball. Just figuring everybody out, I guess I'd say."

The team was under the direction of assistant coaches Shon Simonson and Heidi McColly.

"Coach Simonson is a really smart, really smart guy. And it's kind of nice seeing his different perspective on the game, because I'm so used to coach Erickson's and I like all my coaches, but it's nice to have a new perspective for once," LaBrie said. "So that's the good thing about having all these co-op coaches is, you get many different ideas from many different coaches, from different schools and places."

In the Lady Mavs' win over Frazer, B. McColly had a game-leading 20 points. LaBrie had 15 points. Downing had nine points. C. McColly had six points, Erickson had six points, Wasson had five points, Bear had four points, and K. McColly had three points.

The Lady Mavericks outscored Frazer in each of the quarters; 16-6, 21-9, 20-3, and 11-6.
