The Malta Mustangs basketball team fought hard in their lone game of the week against the Havre Blue Ponies in Havre, but fell 75-67 last Tuesday, December 17.
The Mustangs will observe Christmas Break and will see their first home game of the season on Friday, January 3, 2025, in the Malta High School Gymnasium. They will take on the Roy-Winifred Outlaws on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Winifred
Malta was led by senior Bohdi Brenden in the team’s loss to Havre. Brenden had 20 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals.
Freshman Regan Stuart had 17 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Kruise Stiles had 15 points. Treyton Wilke had 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Malta was outscored 36-24 in the first half, and 24-14 in the third quarter. The Mustangs outpaced the Blue Ponies 29-15 in the fourth quarter but the effort was too late. Malta trailed by as much as 24 points.
The Blue Ponies outrebounded Malta 47 to 27. Malta won the turnover battle and scored 20 points off of their 19 forced turnovers. Malta also scored 17 points in transition while holding Havre to six.
