Malta High School Holiday Concert Well Attended

It was Tuesday evening, at the Malta High School auditorium, as the combined voices and talents of the choir and band presented their Holiday Concert. Choir director, Mrs. Janell McKenney, with the assistance of Mrs. Nancy Murdock on the piano, shared four songs for the audience.

Among the selections were “White Winter Hymnal,” an arrangement by Roger Emerson; “Sleigh Ride” by Kirby Shaw; “Ad Astra,” and the closing selection was “Once Upon a December,” which was an arrangement by Audrey Snyder. The choir is composed of four young men and eight young ladies. The harmonious blend of voices was both soothing and relaxing.

Mr. Roy McKenney introduced the three youth who were selected for the All-Northwest Band: Lola Snell, Jacob Stark and Braydon Rhoads. This honor hasn’t been available to MHS students for quite a few years, and needless to say, McKenney was both pleased and proud. Congratulations to these young talented students. It is quite an honor to be selected.

McKenney was pleased to announce this evening’s presentation was his final one for the holiday rush, and with a slight hesitation stated that Mrs. McKenney still had concerts next week. The community appreciates the time and energy that the McKenney’s invest in the students in band and choir and the variety of styles in selections they bring to the audience.

Captivating the audience, McKenney had the band play “At Morning’s First Light,” by David Gillingham, “Wintertide,” arranged by Randall Standridge, “Holiday Flutecake,” an arrangement by David Shaffer, and the final choice was “Chasing Sunlight,” by Cait Nishimura.
