Mike Rappold and Don Hould worked the Tom and Jerry station during the Christmas Social at the Phillips County Museum.

Doug Henry, employee at the local grocery store, was delighted with the sales of roasted chicken prepared on their new rotisserie. They were selling faster than he could prepare them.

Todd Mandeville, Saco artist, received news that his painting, “My Guardian Angels”, was awarded the People’s Choice at the National Oil and Acrylic Painter’s Society Best of America Exhibit in Osage Beach, Missouri. He said he had also received good news in the form of a poem written about him by Kari Green Hould entitled “Just a Memory in the Heart.” He had never had a poem written about him, and found it to be, “pretty neat…to have someone who appreciates my art so much to do something like this is very nice.”

Greg Kirkwood’s collection of ornaments hung on a special tree at the Kirkwood Funeral Home were now past 450 in number.

It was Farm-City Week at the Malta Elementary School for second and sixth grade students. With the assistance of the Phillips County CattleWomen youngsters were able to see animals from ranches and farms. On display were a horse, goat, chickens, rabbits, sheep and a working stock dog. Michael Fred Ereaux introduced them to the fine art of milking a cow.

Even though she had fouled out, she had made 22 points and Aunt Viv, Uncle Bill and family were proud of their niece, Lee Ann. Their “good luck at State” ad made it clear: P.S. It’s “PUH-KO-VITCH!”

The City Council would be voting on whether to change the way in which water and sewer bills are mailed out. They are currently mailed to the tenant, however since tenants have on occasion failed to pay rent and utilities and then leave town, the owner is unaware the bills have not been paid.

JayDee Heaton and Nick Lindeen were married in Huntley, MT. with a country setting. She was the fifth family member to wear the wedding dress made by her great-grandmother for her grandmother’s wedding.

Marg Green-Yaroskaski, Malta High School graduate, was named executive director of the Dodge City Crisis Center..

Laura Nordlund of Malta was crowned as the Phillips County Junior Miss; first runner-up was Marilyn Golik, second runner-up (tie) Tana Kappel (Saco) and Tammy Ganter (Whitewater), third runner-up Wendy Erickson (Saco) and also Spirit of the Junior Miss, and winner of the talent award JoAnn Simonson (Whitewater).

Becky Hould and Kit Kaufman were married in an afternoon wedding on Nov. 30th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Mr. and Mrs. George Lundman announced the engagement of their daughter, Alexis Anne, to Billy Whisneant, of Silsbee, TX.; a Feb. 15 wedding is planned.

Twin sons, Chad and Jerry, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Simonson of Whitewater.

Vital Statistics: Marriage License Issued Dec. 4: Walter Lodmell, legal age, and Clara Lodmell, legal age.

Coleen DePuydt, a senior at Whitewater, was the winner of the Voice of Democracy contest sponsored by the Malta VFW Post 4067.

Phillips County was $2000.00 richer this week as a bail bond in that amount was forfeited. The bond was put up by James Canoy, Jr., of Broadus, who was charged with the theft of a guitar from the Stockman Bar. He had appeared in district court and pled guilty. When he failed to appear for court, County Attorney Willis McKeon filed for the forfeiture and it was turned over to the county.

Mr. and Mrs. Lorn Anderson of Dillon, are the parents of a son born Nov. 14.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bebee announce the engagement of their daughter, Marilyn, to Ron Scott of Billings, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scott, of Powell, Wyoming.

Al Betzing was elected to the Malta Volunteer Fire Department for the next year at the meeting of the group Thursday evening. He succeeds Gaylord Robertson.

William Armington, Content cattleman, was re-elected to the Malta District advisory board, Bureau Land Management, as cattle representative for South Phillips precinct.

Bill Campbell presented a check for $1000 from the Malta VFW Club to the Phillips County Hospital association and said the proceeds of the VFW’s Pearl Harbor day dance will be donated to the fund.

Dolores Fuchs and William Andrew were married in Lewiston, ID., on Nov. 26th.

DON’T try to mail your Christmas cards this year with a 1½ cent stamp! Post office officials explain that the postage rate on unsealed greeting cards, which travel by third class mail was raised to 2¢ last January.

A large crowd attended the Rainbow father-daughter banquet in the Masonic Hall last week. Mrs. Bruce Garlinghouse said the dinner was a huge success and “one of the largest banquets since I have been Mother advisor.”

Grover Waite left for Plentywood to represent the interests of the Wells Dickey company for a few weeks. On his return to Malta it was rumored that Grover would become under-sheriff under Sheriff-elect W. H. Garland.

Bud Barrett, well-known resident of the Little Rockies, was in Malta for a combined business and pleasure trip.

The Community Church was observing the fourth anniversary of the pastorate of Rev. Thomas F. Rucker with special Sunday services. On the program were vocal selections by Ellis Blumental and Mrs. F.W. Hall, and violin numbers by John Dick.

Toy Doo, cook at the Great Northern Hotel had passed into Chinese heaven, according to the Enterprise, and his remains had been sent to Helena for interment. “He was a man of unusually high intelligence, moral and upright, and a first-class cook.” Remarked the editor.

“Clyde Akins came to town on Friday looking just like a tramp and saying he could not help it because it was all the clothes he had. While branding sheep his home had caught fire and burned completely. The loss included all his clothing except what he had on, and his entire stock of winter groceries.”

Residents of Rocky Point were asking for mail service from Roy, on the other side of the Missouri, on the ground that their present service via Zortman was unsatisfactory. There were 25 families in the settlement.
