While families gathered across the county for Thanksgiving last week, at least one individual was out vandalizing in Dodson. Window were busted out of the Town Hall. There were no fingerprints, or rocks or other instruments indicating what used for the break-in. Mayor Terri Cole said Jerry Lankford took time away from his family and brought tools and materials and closed the place up. “Thank God for Jerry Lankford,” she said.
Practices kicked off for the Saco-Whitewater Lady Panthers basketball team; they are looking strong, having lost only one senior to graduation.
The Malta Mustangs started the new season and welcomed new faces. Cru Darrah, who played point guard last year, has shown he is able to play ball, particularly in the state tournament game against Huntley.
Kennedy Koss accepted the award for the People’s Choice Award at the PC Museum and Historical Society Christmas Festival, on behalf of the Rough Riders 4-H Club.
For the past 20 years, the Christmas trees at the Kirkwood Funeral Home has displayed ornaments hung in memory of loved ones who have passed away. Currently, there are 450 ornaments displayed.
The Malta High School cast in Beauty and the Beast…Really? posed for a post-performance picture after their of their presentation Tuesday evening.
A retired assayer at the mine, Carol Azure enjoys burritos, working with plastic canvas, and the movie Gone with the Wind. The “Senior in the Spotlight” said her favorite song is You’ll Never Walk Alone, and her favorite holiday is “…Christmas, by far!”
Welcome wee one, Rowdy James Beil, whose parents are Lacey Haynes and Jason Beil of Saco. She joins a sister, Royce Alexis.

The Montana Power Company has teamed up with Kiwanis International in an effort to support the service club’s Iodine Deficiency Disorder. MPC donated a set of four prints of Montana to be raffled off. Local Kiwanis Laurel Enyeart, Johnny Richardson, Ernie Becker and Jamie Hancock were pictured displaying the art work.
The Coyote of the Month for the Dodson elementary grades is Elizabeth Messerly. She was selected for being polite, punctual, considerate and conscientious. For grades 7-12 Mike Goertz was selected, being described as dependable, a good example, and hard working. He is a junior.
When JayDee Heaton married the love of her life, Nick Lindeen, she was wearing the dress made by her great-grandmother for her grandma to wear for her wedding. She was the fifth family member to be wed in the dress and all of them are still married.
Approximately $90,000 had been pledged to purchase $10,000 shares to finance a new family clothing store in Malta. “We’re still here, we haven’t gone away yet,” said Kari Carnahan, one of the local volunteers spearheading the efforts to find enough investors to purchase up to $250,000 worth of shares.
“This is probably the best team we have put on the mats since I have been involved the last seven years,” said Mustang wrestling coach, Ron Malone. State placers returning include Kris LaBrie and Lance Spencer. They are joined by state qualifiers Travis Rhodes, Eric Barthelmess, J.D. O’Neil, Adam Johnson, Matt Sims, and Jesse Brown.
The Phillips County Hospital was pleasantly surprised to learn from an investment company that William Larcombe had made a $100,000 donation to the hospital in his will.

Results of the Malta-Wolf Point wrestling matches with wins were as follows: Greg Hughes, Dennis Siegle, Dirk Henry, John Watson, Dean Hasler, Doug Paulson, Pete Lumsden, and Mike Ereaux. They won 48-12. JV winning matmen were: Doug Simanton, Jim Webb, Jim Ereaux, Mike Scheffelmear, and Layton Salsbery. The JV team lost 42-30.
The Malta Mustang basketball squad ran their season’s record to 3-0 with a pair of non-conference wins over Glasgow and Wolf Point last weekend. In the Glasgow game Dan Lundstrom and Mike Cole scoring rallied the team to a 65-56 victory.
Young boxers took to the ring at the city hall at the boxing smoker. Winning were by Decision or Technical Knock Out (TKO): 55-lbs., Brandt Young (D); 70-lbs., Larry Steele (D); 75-lbs., Delmar Henry (D); 80-lbs., Lance Beto (D); 106-lbs., Doug Simanton -TKO; and 132-lbs., Dexter Henry-TKO. Six boxers saw action for the first time. Larry Smith was named the most courageous boxer for Malta. Doug Simanton scored his third straight TKO. Local helping were Alan Snider, judge, Mrs. Don Simanton, timekeeper and referees were Obert Dalby and Don Simanton.
The forthcoming marriage of Jeanne Lorraine McCarthy, of East Islip, NY, and John Barnard, of Malta, is announced. A December 22 wedding is planned in NY with reception planned for December 29 in Malta at the Little White Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Waters celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary hosted by their children. Combined with the event was a surprise 25th wedding anniversary for their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harlie Waters.
The children of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Green invite family and friends to an open house honoring the couple on their 25th anniversary. The gathering will be at the Malta Lutheran Church.

Dan Jerrel and Bill Oster of Miles City, were found guilty in justice court last week of a misdemeanor and fined $75 each. They were found guilty of having in their possession lead slugs which might have been used in vending machines and other legal devices intended to be operated by lawful coin of the U.S. Phillips County Attorney James Harrison prosecuted the case and Willis McKeon represented the defendants.
There will be no more communication through the cell windows between inmates of the Phillips county jail and persons on the outside. The playground near the jail made the situation especially bad. With the windows sealed, there will be no chance for contact between the children and the prisoners.
Evelyn Kvale became the bride of Marion Palmer of Seattle, in a beautiful candlelight ceremony at the Community Church.

About 100 people gathered at the John Mangis home for a joint Thanksgiving dinner served by the ladies of the Lutheran Aid society. Here was a sale of fancy work in the afternoon and the proceeds amounted to about $100.
Hall and Robinson reported good results from one of the first sugar beet top feeding operations in the valley. Lambs were being fed tops and beets which had been plowed out too late for shipment to the factory in Billings.
On the high school honor roll list were the names of Raymond Veseth, Rosaline Dippy, Lochiel Edwards, Esther Edwards, Laura Baker and Thomas Watson.

Two characters named Coyote Bill and John E. Taylor drew ten years each in the state penitentiary following trial of a manslaughter charge.
Valley county appealed a tax case in which the Coburn Cattle Company had secured a judgment against the county taxes for illegally collected. At stake was a tax payment of $706.42 which the Coburns said that had paid without reason, plus interest of $812.39.
Jim LeNoir had brought in a wagonload of prime turkeys from his ranch in the Bowdoin country. Most of the birds were subsequently won by local marksmen at a shoot held in town.
