One Nation, Under God
On a peaceful Tuesday evening in the quiet village of Malta, the sound “Cold Duck Time” resounded from the auditorium at the Malta High School and it was evident the jazz band was presenting another fine performance. Under the direction of Mr. Roy McKenney, Lela Domire (vocals), Oslo Stenberg (alto saxophone), Jacob Stark (trombone) Olycee Saintlouis (sousaphone), Braydon Rhoads (guitar), Bridger Benton (euphonium/bass) and Kelbie Nelson (drums) presented an invigorating set of soothing music of varied genre.
In addition to “Cold Duck Time” by Eddie Harris, the audience was treated to the group playing “Mercy Mercy Mercy” by Joe Zawinul, “Suzie Q” by CCR, “Sonnymoon for Two” by Sonny Rollins.
The final set for the evening of entertainment was “House of the Rising Sun” by the Animals.
This young group brought an atmosphere to the halls that ranks among some of the best on the hi-line.
As the 2025 year rolls in the group will be presenting another concert and will also be competing in Billings at the jazz festival. As the dates are approaching, be sure to check the school calendar and Facebook for dates and times.
The inspiring youth, and Mr. McKenney, as well, appreciate the support of the community as they make the fine arts available. Make an effort to support these talented youth and their talent.
