The Malta Middle School wrestlers traveled to Lewistown on Tuesday, Nov. 19 for a small meet with four other schools, Lewistown, Huntley, Roundup and St. Francis (Billings). Malta finished 3rd in the team race with Huntley finishing 1st and St. Francis 2nd.
Titus Carnahan, Clyde Lankford, Gunner Stenberg, Cooper Pankratz, Kaiden Tharp, Nathan Domire, Trent Blunt, Kasen Jones, Trax Simanton and Mira Tharp all went 0-3 and took 4th place. Gunner Stenberg fought hard and lost all of his matches by technical fall and did not give up a pin. Kaiden Tharp gets the Most Exciting Match Award for the Lewistown meet during his 19-12 loss to a Huntley opponent where the outcome was in doubt until the final seconds and Kaiden never quit moving or trying.
The 3rd place wrestlers for the Lewistown meet were Julian Hilliard, Cord Newman, Tryan Anderson, Beau Nelson, Beau Merriman and Taije Stiles. Taije picked up his first win of the season with a pin.
All of our 2nd place finishers wrestled well and had tough competition in their weight class. Most of them had a 2-1 record except Corby Mears who was 1-1 with only three in his weight class. Other 2nd place finishers were Rio Oxarart, Colby Wright, Braun Sims and Calvin Squires. Colby Wright gets the Quick Pin Award for the Lewistown meet with an :18 second pin.
Four champions emerged from the Lewistown meet. Beckett Squires stayed on a roll and won by decision and had two pins. Cameron Spencer wrestled strong with two decisions and one pin. Kallie LaBrie won her 2nd tournament title with a major decision and a pin. Karsten Davis won by decision, technical fall and a pin. This is Karsten's 3rd tournament title in a row. Karsten receives the Wrestler of the Week Award for the Lewistown Meet. The next meet for the Malta Middle School wrestlers will be the Malta Tournament on Saturday, Dec 7.
