One Nation, Under God
Well, the Malta Mustangs won the State Title! I guess maybe I should be a little less superstitious. Superstition never seems to work with my pro teams anyway.
Superstition wasn’t in my favor all day last Saturday.
First off, I try to make it to the game at the same time, every time. I lost where I put my hand warmers and searched frantically for them before leaving the house, so I was later than normal. My hands froze by the way. Thankfully, I had a heated vest. It cost me about $45 bucks and was worth every penny.
The next issue was parking. My parking spot is typically near the east gate or the Malta Cemetery. This time, I had to enter the west gate, so I had no choice but to park southwest of Malta Elementary.
Of course, this was slightly awkward because I had to walk past the opponents’ bus on the way out. I don’t like rubbing things in after we win.
My family has been present at Mustang Field for all of our home games, but we thought it was a little too cold for our sons (we know our limit), so they didn’t come.
My wife, who might also be a little stitious, as Coach Oxarart says, did come to the championship.
I typically sit by my wife during the third quarter of every game we go to, but this time, I decided to ignore my superstition and walk the sidelines instead.
It was cold, I missed holding my wife’s hand, and I was nervous that I was jinxing the game.
On a championship game, I normally bring my small lens to take trophy photos. It was left in the car that was so inconveniently parked so far away.
Thankfully, the skill, hard work, and determination of the Mustangs was stronger than my irrational belief that things would fall apart if I switched things up.
