“The Old Coyote” himself, Jack Stenswick, was pictured wearing a perma-grin after bagging an impressive deer.

The Dodson School hosted community picnic in honor of the veterans in the area, and to celebrate Thanksgiving. The event was at the school and the students presented a program, sang songs and read poems.

Just before Cecelia Lankford’s 102nd birthday, she gathered with Caitlin Smith-Anderson, Tryan Anderson, Larry Smith and Judy Crowder for a five-generation photo.

Making the 1st Team All-Conference for District 3 Volleyball were Jada Sudbrach and Alana Malmend of Saco/Hinsdale, and Second Team All-Conference were Mickayla Johnson and Delaney Bell, both of Saco/Hinsdale.

This week Pete Score was in the Senior Spotlight, sharing that his favorite meal was fried chicken and Christmas was his favorite holiday. Before retiring Pete was a contractor and he enjoys reading Louis L’Amour books. He said his favorite song is Amazing Grace.

Students selected for their winning entries in the contest by the Phillips County CattleWomen were grades: (K) Finn Witmer; (1st) Lola Snell; (2nd); Madelyn Ohl; (3rd) Madyson Warburton; (4th) Kirsta Meisdalen; and (5th) Emma Harms.

Having grown up together and being best friends, Joanie Sjostrom and Monicha Williamson are looking forward to playing on the M-ette volleyball team this season. “It’s pretty fun. We push each other.” Sjostrom said, “That’s what best friends are for.”

The school districts from Malta, Saco and Whitewater Schools and Phillips County apparently plan to beat the Office of Public Instruction to the punch in making an offer to settle a lawsuit in which more than $5.7 million in local government severance taxes (LGST) are at stake. The representatives of the schools, county commissioners, and County Attorney Ed Amestoy met with Superintendent of Public Schools, Gary Baden and attorney Jeffrey Hindoien to discuss making a settlement offer, Baden told the PCN.

Megan Ereaux, as a class assignment, wrote a narrative of the (Civilian Conservation Camp), which is where Trafton Park is now located, and shared the story of the Germans who were here as prisoners, and their work in the beet fields.

James Stevenson had purchased a gyro-plane kit from Canada, had taken it to Helena to be certified by the FAA, and posed for a picture on his way home north of Malta. He will take it to the skies – just as soon as he learns how to fly it.

Sharon Kindle of Malta was elected as secretary to the National WIFE (Women Involved in Farm Economics) at the national convention in Spokane, WA.

A 67-59 victory over a tough and talented Conrad Cowgirls put the M-ettes “where we want to be” when the State Class B Tournament opens in Belgrade, according to Coach Del Fried.

Terri Skiff was the winner in the Make It Yourself With Wool contest and Margaret Demarais placed second. In the junior class Katie Smith from Malta placed third. Ceri Demarais was declared the most confident model and received a savings bond.At the

Nov 28, 1974

Don Nevrivy, former Malta Mustang, will be playing for the University of North Dakota Tetons in Williston. The Mustangs were conference champions for the past three years.

Kevin Salsbery was displaying a mountain goat he bagged in the Tobacco Roots Mountains near Harrison. The goat weighed close to 200 pounds after it was dressed out; the horns measured over nine inches and had seven rings, designating the age.

The Whitewater (Lady) Penguins will head for the State Class B girls basketball tournament in Miles City Dec. 5-7.

In the Vital Statistics: Sons were born to Mrs. Charles Welch and Mrs. Dennis McCarty. Deaths included Henry Lamb, age 91.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Harlie Waters requested the pleasure of your company at a surprise open house on Dec. 1 in honor of their 25th wedding anniversary.

There will be an open house for Tweet and Betty Oxarart’s 25th wedding anniversary on Dec. 7th. It will be held at their ranch south of Malta.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stevens celebrated their 40th anniversary with an open house at the Moose Hall of Nov. 23rd.

Nov. 24, 1949

The remains of Lt. Lancer Robertson, son of Amr. And Mrs. W.F. Robertson of Malta, have been found and returned to the United States for burial. A much-decorated bombardier with a bombardment squadron in India, was reported missing about Dec. 1, 1943. Robertson was one of four brothers serving in the armed forces during WWll. He graduated from Malta in 1936, and his started his military career as a private in Co. D, 116th QM regiment, in Malta’s unit of the Montana National Guard and rose to the rank of sergeant.

ROLL CALL: Here is another one…we refer to guys who served in the army or navy during the war years and who swore upon receiving their discharge they were through with any and all branches of the service forever and ever, Amen. They’ll never admit it, but they like soldiering-regardless of how much they may try to convince themselves or others that they were bamboozled back in.

Pete Score was born July 31, 1924, and graduated with the Malta Class of 1942. The war was on and he serving with the 1156 Engr. Combat of the 15th Army. When he discharged in April of 1946 he had earned five ribbons and two battle stars. He re-enlisted in the Malta unit in Sept. 1947.

Students in social Ec who received straight A’s were: Evert Bruckner, Joyce Blunt, Lee Dobson, Delores Hartman, Lillian Grimsley, Julia Hervol, Barbara Hould, Betty Jacobson, Gladys Ostlund, Rosie Ruiz, Curtis Smith, Elmer Seel, Lila Wieselman and Norine Storbeck.

Herbert Mangis won the boys and girls sweepstakes at the Wolf Point corn show with a display of 25 ears of northwestern dent.

Warren Sowers was threshing beans at his farm. The yield was running about five bushel to the acre.

There was an epidemic of hi-coughs in town. The fits last an entire day or more and there was no apparent relief, nor any clue to the trouble.

Good old days note: “Jim Hines was out in the Larb hills and came near being run over by two deer….He recovered from his fright in time to kill both.”

The local Eagles lodge announced a new bridge room and Opera House as a construction program. The building was to cost $10,000.

A Cavanaugh had set foundations for a 24x24 building “on the South Side between the Gem Restaurant and the clothing store.”…There was some mystery as to who would use the structure for what.
