The carcass results from the 2024 4-H and FFA Livestock Show at the Phillips County Fair are complete. Carcass Results are eligible to be submitted to the Steer of Merit program, sponsored by the Montana Stockgrowers; Symbol of excellence program, sponsored by the Pork Producers Council; and Montana Certified Lamb program, sponsored by the Montana Wool Growers.
For meeting individual carcass requirements, youth winners and the breeders of their animals receive a certificate from the sponsoring livestock organizations, and 4-H trophies for the first (Grand) and second (Reserve) place exhibitors in each species.
There were 3 steers out of 33 that qualified for Steer of Merit. Grand Champion for Beef Carcass was presented to Renzey Raymond, the trophy was sponsored by Oxarart Cattle Co./ CHS - Big Sky. Renzey's beef breeder was Young Brothers Angus. The Reserve Champion Carcass was awarded to Courtney Merriman, with the trophy sponsor being Scott and Tammy Wyse. Courtney's beef breeder was Veseth Cattle Co. The other SOM winner was Hoyt Mahan.
We had 1 Lamb Carcass Winner this year and that was Emmett Skubinna with the trophy sponsor being Consolidated Vet Services,
There were 7 swine that qualified for Symbol of Excellence swine carcass awards out of 57. The Grand Champion Swine Carcass was awarded to Amus Blunt, with the trophy being sponsored by Shane Anderson Insurance. Amus' swine breeder was the Camrose Hutterite Colony. The Reserve Champion Carcass trophy was awarded to Brishley Witmer, with the trophy being sponsored by CHS Big Sky. Brishley's swine breeder was also the Camrose Hutterite Colony. Other SOE winners included: Tomas Gray, Camri Salveson, Trenton Blunt, Kinley Young and Kesi Salveson.
