One Nation, Under God
Twenty four Malta Middle School wrestlers traveled to Miles City on Friday, November 8, for the Bronco Invite. Malta finished first in a 10-team race. Team scores are as follows: Malta 296, Sidney 277, Glendive 237, Glasgow 213, Miles City 210, Wolf Point 98, Poplar 76, Baker 64, Circle 42 and Forsyth 41.
Ten wrestlers finished 0-3 for the day and placed 4th in the tourney. Malta wrestlers receiving 4th place were Beckett Squires, Trenton Blunt, Cord Newman, Kaiden Tharp, Gunner Stenberg, Nathan Domire, Cooper Pankratz, Taije Stiles, Blake Tharp and Mira Tharp.
Finishing with a 1-2 record for the day and 3rd place were Hayden Hicks, Colby Wright, Braun Sims, Julian Hilliard, Kasen Jones and Beau Nelson. The only Malta wrestler to have a 2-1 record and receive 2nd place was Clyde Lankford.
Malta had seven champions at the Bronco Invite. Finishing first with a 3-0 record were Corby Mears, Karsten Davis, Beau Merriman, Kallie LaBrie, Rio Oxarart and Calvin Squires. Titus Carnahan was first place with a 2-0 record for the 2nd straight week and is the only undefeated wrestler on our roster to this point. Beau Merriman gets the Quick Pin Award with an :11 second pin. Beau had three pins in a time of two minutes and twenty seconds. The champions made it hard on the coaches to choose a Wrestler of the Week. Karsten Davis had two pins and a technical fall victory (beat opponent by 15 or more points). Corby Mears had a pin, technical fall and 9-4 decision win. Calvin Squires had a pin, technical fall and a 12-4 decision. We are giving out two Wrestler of the Week Awards for the Bronco Invite. Rio Oxarart and Kallie LaBrie are our Wrestlers of the Week. Rio was dominant with wins of 6-0, 8-0 and 15-0. Rio had a big improvement from last week and did not look like a 5th grader in this tournament. Kallie LaBrie had two pins and a 3-2 decision win. Kallie dominated and pinned an opponent that she beat only 3-0 last week and defeated an opponent 3-2 that had beat her 8-1 last week. Kallie's 3-2 victory over her Glasgow opponent was also the Most Exciting Match of the Week.
Lyla Warren had a bicycle wreck as she was traveling to wrestling practice and broke her arm. She continues to come to practice and came this weekend to Miles City to help the managers. Lyla was one of our best wrestlers last year. We appreciate her continuing to be part of the team. The next meet for the Malta Middle School Wrestlers will be at Hardin on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 9:00 am. The last meet before Thanksgiving will be at Lewistown on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
