The Malta M-ettes volleyball team is set to host the 2B District Volleyball Tournament this week. The team will have to bounce back after losses to Havre and Fairview last week.
Four 2B teams will qualify for the Northern B which is set to start in Shelby on Thursday, November 7, and conclude on November 9.
The M-ettes, who took third place in the conference, will face the Harlem Ladycats in the opening round of the 2B District Tournament on Thursday, October 31, at 7:30 p.m.
"From the very beginning, we have emphasized that the postseason is our time to shine," Malta Head Coach Tasha Hines said. "I can confidently say that we are ready to peak at just the right moment. The potential that lies ahead of us is unmatched, and now is the time for us to take action, one match at a time.
"We are particularly excited to have the opportunity to compete in our district tournament right here in Malta," Coach Hines continued. "Having the home court advantage is something special, and I know the girls are looking forward to the support from our hometown fans."
Malta finished 7-3 in conference play during the regular season and coach Hines issued a statement of pride in her team.
"I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredibly exciting season for our team," Coach Hines said. "This group is filled with determination and motivation, and it's been a true joy to coach them. While we may not have fully achieved our goal of a perfect conference record, finishing at 7-3, we have much to celebrate. Each challenge we faced this season has provided us with invaluable learning experiences, allowing us to grow and improve as a team."
Malta defeated Harlem 3-0 on Saturday, October 19, and 3-0 on September 14. If the M-ettes can make it past Harlem, they will be squared up with the second-seed Glasgow Lady Scotties on Friday, November 1, at 11:30 a.m.
Malta and Glasgow split the regular season series; Glasgow won their first meeting in Glasgow 3-2 on Thursday, September 12. Malta won the second match 3-0 in Malta on Saturday, October 12.
In Malta's road loss to Fairview on Saturday, October 26, the scores were 25-21, 27-25, 10-25, 15-25, and 10-15.
Malta was led by junior Denvyr Tuss who had 10 kills and five blocks. Senior Ava Hanson had 10 kills and three aces. Kendall Clausen had 26 digs. Junior Neva Jacobson had 16 assists.
Malta had a total of 84 digs, 34 kills, 30 assists, 11 blocks, and five aces.
Malta hosted Havre last Thursday, October 24, and fell 3-0. The scores were 12-25, 18-25, and 19-25.
Tuss led Malta with six kills and a block. Jacobson had 15 digs, 13 assists, and an ace.
Malta had a total of 61 digs, 25 kills, 24 assists, three blocks, and two aces.
