One Nation, Under God

Richard Fewer (December 30, 1963 – October 24, 2024)

Richard, age 60, a beloved cowboy and rancher sadly passed away on October 24, 2024. Richard was born prematurely on December 30,1963, at Northern Montana Hospital, in Havre, Montana, weighing in at 3 1/2 pounds.

Richard was the sixth child of William "Bill" and Shirley (Tribby) Fewer. Older siblings were Marie, James, FayeAnn, Paula (who died at birth), and Ronald (who is only 10 1/2 months older). Older sister Marie picked out his name, because she wanted to call him "Ricky" and to this day no one has ever called him Ricky.

Richard attended Glasgow Schools, graduating in 1982. He was a Glasgow Scottie wrestler for a couple of years. Richard then went on to receive his associates degree from Dawson Community College.

Growing up, Richard traveled with his family to many O-Mok-Sees. He rode bulls for a while, which did not work out well for him. He then became interested in team roping. He became a pretty good team roper and won many awards for his heading ability. A timeless cowboy, he was a man of the land. A relic of a bygone era, his heart as vast as the plains he roamed. Richard was rough around the edges, his hands, worn and calloused, were a testament to a life spent outdoors! Yet, beneath his weathered exterior lay a heart full of love, a gentle soul with a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures.

Family was his anchor! His love for his wife was unwavering, a bond forged in the heart of the American West. Richard was a man who worked hard all day, every day. He considered himself a jack of all trades, and a master of none. He was a man of Faith (maybe not in church), but he knew and believed. Richard met Marlo in the summer of 2015 while working for Mid Rivers. Richard had a pretty good idea that Marlo was the one that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Their first date was of course a Griz game. After finishing out the Griz season, it was obvious that Richard knew where his last lasso would be thrown!

Everyone knew that Richard was an avid Griz Fan, having started attending games in the late 1980s. This became their "yearly vacation" as Richard called it. This then became a passion shared between Richard and Marlo.

Richard is survived by his wife Marlo Fewer; his siblings: Marie (David) Pippin, sister-in-law Jennifer Fewer, FayeAnn Cummings, and Ronald (Tammy) Fewer; three stepchildren: Shawn, Ashley, and Michelle and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his fur-legged companion Bailey.

He is preceded in death by both his parents William and Shirley Fewer, infant sister Paula, brother James, and his beloved dog Harley.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Glasgow Elks with Howard Pippin officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Glasgow Rodeo Committee (who handles both the High School Rodeo and NEMONT Rodeo), P.O. Box 164, Glasgow, Montana, 59230. Condolences may be left for the family at bellmortuarymontana.com.
