M-ettes To Face Havre and Fairview

The Malta M-ettes volleyball picked up a pair of wins last week, defeating the Cut Bank Lady Wolves 3-0 in Malta on Friday, October 18, and the Harlem LadyCats 3-0 in Harlem on Saturday, October 19.

Malta will be tested this week, having to host Class A's Havre on Thursday, October 24, for Senior Night and then traveling to Fairview to face the Warriors on Saturday, October 26. Malta fell to Fairview 1-3 the last time the teams faced off.

In Malta's win over Cut Bank, the scores were 25-7, 25-11, and 25-18.

The PCN caught up with junior co-captain Kendall Clausen, senior Kelbie Nelson, and Shaylee Hines.

Hines was asked about the team's key to victory.

"Just staying positive and for myself, staying confident," Hines said.

The M-ettes have won four games in a row and have swept their last three opponents. Nelson was asked about the team's success.

"I think lately we've had a lot of confidence in each other and trust and we have all made sure to move on from any sour events," Nelson said. "So I think we're just playing more as a family now."

Junior Kendall Clausen led the charge with nine kills and four aces. She was asked about her approach to the net.

"I think, what's going through my head is just to make it count and make a point to help our team succeed," Clausen said.

Senior Ava Hanson had 12 digs. Junior Neva Jacobson had 17 assists. Denvyr Tuss and Shaylee Hines both had two blocks each.

Malta had a total of 46 digs, 32 kills, 31 assists, eight aces, and four blocks.

Nelson was asked what the team had to do to pick up a win over Harlem.

"No underestimating anybody, but we just have to stay positive and move on from any mistakes," Nelson said.

Prior to the game, Malta's Averee Matthews was awarded the Sportsmanship Award by Harlem's JV team. Hailey Welch was awarded the Sportsmanship Award by Harlem's varsity team.

The scores in Malta's win over Harlem were 25-16, 25-21, and 25-11.

Clausen and Welch led Malta with 12 kills each. Jacobson had 14 assists. Hanson had 10 digs and four aces. Tuss had two aces.

Malta had a total of 43 digs, 30 kills, 27 assists, nine aces, and three blocks.

Hines was asked how the team can continue their success as the postseason approaches.

"To improve mainly how we're sticking together these past few games and how we pushed through," Hines said. "We're just working together, really good lately."
