Madelyn Clarice Anderson (December 12, 1924 – October 19, 2024)

Madelyn Clarice Anderson, born on December 12, 1924, in Fort Benton, Montana, to Mabel (Lodmell) and Clarence Flesche, passed away peacefully at the age of 99, surrounded by the love of her family during her final weeks.

Madelyn spent her early years on a farm south of Malta and attended Gunhus Country School, later graduating from Malta High School in 1942. She worked at the First State Bank before marrying Leonard Anderson in 1951.

Together, they built a life on their farm/ranch in the Bennett Lake Community, where they raised their family.

A lifelong learner and contributor to her community, Madelyn spent 60 years as a proud member of the Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club, earning the distinction of National Garden Club Master Flower Show Judge with many flower show design achievement awards. She was also a devoted member of the Malta Lutheran Church, serving in the church choir for 75 years.

Madelyn had a deep love for Malta, always cheering on the Malta Mustangs and M-ettes, either in person or by faithfully tuning in to KMMR Radio. She was active in many local organizations, including Malta PEO and the Phillips County Museum, and enjoyed countless hands of cards with Malta's Duplicate Bridge Club, Madelyn also worked at First Security Bank of Malta until retirement after moving into Malta.

She is survived by her children: Lorna (Mike) Lang of Malta and their children Micah, Lisa and Lindsay, Jim (Lila) Anderson of the Conrad area and their children Joshua and Jodi, Marsha (George) Polansky of Bozeman and their children Ben and Vanessa, Curtis Anderson of New York, NY and his children Sam, Henry and Claire, and Ross (Tammy) Anderson of Sartell, MN and their children Quinn and Chase. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Madelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard (who passed in 1984), and her four siblings: Gloria Boothe, Ellsworth (Stub) Flesche, Joyce Clausen, and Bob Flesche.

Many of her treasured lifelong friends passed before her, too.

Madelyn's enduring love, quiet strength, and commitment to family and community will be remembered by all who knew her. Her dedication to her garden and flowers-often watered by bucket-was a reflection of the care she gave to everything in her life.

A time for viewing and sharing memories with the family will be held on Friday, October 25th, at 6 PM at Wilderness Funeral Home in Malta. A funeral service will be held at the Malta Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 26th, at 11 AM, followed by an interment at Malta Cemetery and a luncheon at the church fellowship hall.

In the spirit of Madelyn's generosity and community focus, memorials are suggested to the immediate needs of the Malta Swimming Pool, c/o the Hi-Line Futures Foundation in Malta, MT.
