New Playground Addition to Riverview Park

Last week the City crew was busy assembling and installing a new piece of playground equipment at Riverview Park. Some dilapidated and unsafe equipment was removed for the new installation.

The brightly colored and sturdy structure includes steps up to the base that has a bright red roof. There is a play area and a hands on manipulation center. There are peep-n-seek spots with open room to let the young imaginations open up and run wild. The assembly also has a slide that won't pinch, burn or have splinters.

In addition to the excitement offered by playground equipment, there are also other factors in using the play area. Physical health improves cardiorespiratory fitness, builds stronger bones and muscles, and reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes. Memory skills are improved as is cognitive health. While improving a child's well-being, there is a reduction of anxiety, depression and a stronger sense of self-confidence. It is a winner all the way around.

The equipment has been kid tested by several "little experts" and given the "two-thumbs-up" seal of approval. The city plans to add another piece of equipment next year.
