** Correction to last week’s entry about the Mustang football team: Coach Nick Oxarart’s Mustangs have outscored the Wolf Point Wolves 399-19 since 2006. That Friday playing the Cut Bank Wolves, they came away with a win of 32-15.

A river was flowing in the middle of several blocks in Malta, due to a crack in the cast iron main near the intersection of South 1st Ave. East and South 7th Street East. The crack left some residents without water for much of Friday. It also required the City Works team a 13-hour day as they had to rip up the pavement, figure out where the 70-plus years-old water shutoffs were and to dig an eight-foot trench to fix the broken pipe.

In one of the few contested city races, Warren O. J. Abrahamson defeated incumbent Karl Harms. Abrahamson ran as an Independent, polled 102 votes while Harms had 90.

Dodson’s city council; votes put Terri Cole and Corliss Nelson on the council for four-year terms. A total of 20 of the 77 registered voters cast ballots (26%).

The Dodson/Whitewater Harriers are headed to the State Class C Cross Country Meet. Jeret Warren, who placed 12th at State last year, Jacina Doney, Shawnee KillEagle who posted a time of 27.45 at last year’s meet, and Teal Martell will be attending.

Military veterans Gaylord Olson and Keith Stine took down a drape to reveal the Blue Star Memorial before Joe Eskildsen laid a wreath before the plaque. Toni Ziegler and Rosemary Veseth of the Malta Dirt Daubers co-chaired the event at Memorial Park. Jay Southwick, American Legion Commander, spoke and Wyatt Uphaus, U.S. Army, presented the colors.

Kiana Simonson’s stud, “Flit”, was named all-around AQHA Barrel Horse of the Year in Butte, Montana. She said he’s blind in one eye, and together we have overcome many obstacles along the way.

The Malta M-ette Cross Country team placed as follows: Sophia Stiles (3rd); Marley Manoukian (6th); Joanie Sjostrom (9th); Eva Harms (11th); TaChante Cole (12th); Jenise Amestoy (17th); Monicha Williamson (19th); Jada Nicholson (20th); and Sarah Ware (25th).

The M-ette Varsity Volleyball team took the court and hammered the Wolf Point Lady Wolves to take the win 3-0.

Each of the M-ette Volleyball players grabbed a small pink volleyball from a bag and ran into the stands to give the ball to their chosen spectator in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Darby Schye ran her ball to the stands and gave it to Pr. Bob Nagy, whose wife, Julie, is a four-year survivor of breast cancer.

Lightning struck in Malta, both literally and figuratively, in the football game against Wolf Point. Lightning bolts struck through the night sky, touching down about a mile from Mustang field. With a 30-minute delay of game, the Mustangs already had scored 34 points in the first two quarters and then went on to win 40-0 when the game resumed.
