Mavericks Lose to Chinook, Beat Lustre

The North Country Mavericks volleyball team split games last week falling 1-3 to the Chinook Sugarbeeters on Tuesday, October 8, and then defeating the Lustre Christian Lions 3-0 in Lustre on Saturday, October 12.

The Lady Mavericks were scheduled to host the Frazer LadyCubs on Tuesday, October 15, in Hinsdale at 5:30 p.m. The game will be their last home game of the regular season. Recap on that game will be in the October 23 PCN.

Last Saturday, the Mavericks attended their match in Lustre where it was Pink Night raising awareness for Breast Cancer.

"The Mavericks had a pretty sporadic week of practice so it led to a little off-kilter play on Saturday," Mavericks Head Coach Charlene Wasson said. "We came away with a win in three sets but just couldn't get going and keep things going the way we would like."

The scores were NC 25 L 19, NC 25 L 7, and NC 25 L 20.

The scores in North Country's loss to Chinook were NC 18 C 25, NC 28 C 26, NC 13 C 25, and NC 18 C 25.

"The Mavericks took on their Class B rival and they came up short but gained some important experience," Coach Wasson said. "Chinook has been a Class C opponent with a lot of volleyball knowledge over the last several years. We enjoy playing them and like to take advantage of playing a solid program."
