M-ettes Smash Scotties, Fall to Fairview

The Malta M-ette Volleyball Team picked up wins over the Glasgow Lady Scotties, and Poplar Indians but fell to the Fairview Warriors last week.

The M-ettes will host the Cut Bank Lady Wolves in Malta on Friday, October 18, at 1 p.m. They will then travel to Harlem to take on the LadyCats on Saturday, October 19, starting at 1 p.m.

In Malta's win over Glasgow last Saturday, the scores were 25-8, 25-16, and 25-10.

Junior Neva Jacobson, a setter, was asked about the team's win over the Lady Scotties.

"I think we had a great environment," Jacobson said. "We were all very confident, we had very good energy, and I think that helped us win."

Senior Ava Hansen led Malta with seven kills and three blocks. Junior Neva Jacobson had 14 assists. Senior Kelbie Nelson had 14 digs and tied with teammate Shaylee Hines for the most aces; both had two.

Kendall Clausen, one of Malta's captains, was asked about the win over their rival.

"Oh it feels amazing," Clausen said. "I think that the crowd brought all that noise that helped us win that game and it was nice for our team to have that good environment too. So I'm very proud of all of us."

Malta had a total of 64 digs, 31 kills, 27 assists, eight aces, and four blocks.

Junior Hailey Welch was able to draw some cheers from Malta's crowd with some athletic kills late in the game to help seal the win.

"I just saw the ball coming over the net, and I thought that was my opportunity to really show what I could do.

On Friday, October 11, the M-ettes defeated the Poplar Indians 3-2. The scores were 19-25, 25-9, 20-25, 25-22, and 15-12.

Welch was asked about the team's victory over Poplar.

"I think we just all really played as a team honestly," Welch said.

Junior Denvyr Tuss led Malta with 10 kills and six blocks. Clausen had ten kills and four aces. Jacobson had 22 assists and 15 digs.

Malta had a total of 83 digs, 40 kills, 37 assists, 13 aces, and 10 blocks.

Malta fell 3-1 to the Fairview Warriors on Thursday, October 10. The scores were 18-25, 20-25, 25-19, and 17-25.

Clausen was asked about the loss.

"I think that our communication, our energy was low during that whole game," Clausen said.

Tuss led Malta with 11 kills. Nelson had 16 digs, Jacobson had 13 assists, Clausen had four aces, and Hines had two blocks.

Malta had a total of 65 digs, 26 kills, 25 assists, 12 aces, and four blocks.

As the postseason approaches, Jacobson was asked about some things that the team could improve on before they host the 2B District Tournament, which is scheduled to start on Thursday, October 31.

"Even though we didn't make many errors really tonight (against Glasgow), I'd like to see us make way less errors and just keep up the energy and keep playing as a team, because we do very good when we're all in it together," Jacobson said.
