One Nation, Under God

I Really Missed My Better Half...

I handled that better than I thought…

For the past week, or what seemed like five years, my wife was in Michigan for a work conference.

It was a different type of week because I had more alone time with the kids. Which was great!

Instead of them venting to mom, I got to hear all of the details. I was responsible for every dinner and getting them to school on time with or without the newspaper deadline.

My sons took it pretty well, though they struggled with the idea of her leaving. If you know my wife, Susan, then you know how enjoyable she is to be around.

She was well missed.

Though she was gone, we connected on phone and video calls. We shared how our day went and how much we missed each other.

She was also thoughtful enough to make a gift bag for every day that she was gone. She made a bag and note each day for PJ, Lincoln, and myself. The boys’ notes came with a daily joke.

Though I could tell that she wanted to come home, I could tell that she was enjoying her time with her team.

She won a pretty cool prize at her conference for winning a game against the 400 other participants at the event. I don’t think that I have ever won first place out of 400 people.

I found myself being slightly envious of the food pictures that she was sending our way because I love trying different things. I also found myself thinking that if there was a person on earth that deserved a break from reality and to try new and tasty things, it was her.

I wrote this last Wednesday, a day before her return home. I am definitely looking forward to tomorrow. To see her. To hug her. To tell her face to face that I love her.
