M-ettes Get Conference Win on Pink Night

The Malta M-ette volleyball team split a pair of games last week as they lost 0-3 to the Chinook Sugarbeeters on Thursday, October 3 in Malta and won their other home game 3-0 against the Wolf Point Wolves on Saturday, October 5.

Malta is scheduled to host the Fairview Warriors on Thursday, October 10. This event has only JV and Varsity games scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. Malta will travel to Poplar to take on the Poplar Indians on Friday, October 11, with the C-Squad game kicking things off at 3 p.m. Malta will also host the Glasgow Lady Scotties on Saturday, October 12. The C-Squad game will start at 3 p.m.

In Malta's win over the Lady Wolves, the scores were 25-11, 25-12, and 25-16.

Senior Kelbie Nelson was asked about the key to Malta's victory.

"We just work really well together as a team and we made adjustments to our mistakes," Nelson said. "We watch film and study."

The team was led by junior captain Denvyr Tuss who had 10 kills and five blocks.

Tuss was asked what it meant to be a part of Pink Night, a night that the team uses to raise funds for a local person battling cancer.

"I think it's really a special thing, how we can come together as a community to raise money for those in need," Tuss said.

Neva Jacobson had a team-leading 15 assists and three aces. Brooklyn Knowles had 11 digs.

Malta had a total of 47 digs, 31 kills, 25 assists, 10 aces, and six blocks against Wolf Point.

In the M-ettes' loss to Chinook, the scores were 24-26, 22-25, and 23-25.

Tuss was asked about the loss after their win over Wolf Point.

"We didn't really play together as a team that well," Tuss said. "And our energy just wasn't there that day, so that didn't really help us out, but I felt that we came back stronger today."

Malta was led by senior Ava Hanson who had seven kills. Nelson had 29 digs. Jacobson had eight assists and five aces. Tuss had two blocks.

Malta had 86 digs, 16 kills, 16 assists, eight aces, and four blocks against Chinook.

With the postseason less than a month away, Nelson was asked what the team needs to work on.

"We definitely need to improve when we get into our later sets; not letting the team get up on us with their score," Nelson said. "We need to keep our mood and keep our hype at a maximum the whole time, stay positive and smile despite dumb mistakes."
