Grace Lucas was honored with the Circle of Green Thumb Award by Garden Club President, Sharon Miller. The skilled gardener is a lifetime member of the Garden Club.
Last week the Malta Schools were shown demonstrations by the Phillips County and Malta City Fire Department. The kids were shown a car ripped apart by the Jaws of Life.
The girl's volleyball coach was excited with their win over Plentywood, which was a first in Coach Julia Tatafu’s years as the coach. It was even more pleasant as it was Plentywood’s senior night and homecoming.
The Mustangs will have their hands full as they head into the playoffs against Wolf Point. Coach Nick Oxarart said, “We’re going to have to tackle them well to get them down. They're big, big guys!”
Robert Twiggs had joined the Malta School District as the new science teacher, replacing retired teacher Andy Otteson.
Wayne French and Taylor Yuzwa, of Calgary, Canada, have set Oct. 18th as their wedding date in Great Falls.
Young car enthusiasts, Denvyr and Lauren Tuss served as presenters for the trophies awarded at the Dodson AMX Race, with benefits raised for TJ Kindle.
When he is not on the job, Richard Ryan, the new special ed teacher enjoys cooking, golf and horticulture.
The Malta Trails, Inc. Group was excited with the $90,000 grant awarded to them through the Montana State Parks.
The new face at the Malta High School is that of Shyla Smith, who moves here from the Darby area. She will be teaching sixth grade and sophomore English.
TJ Siewing placed third in the State Punt, Pass & Kick competition when he took his talents to Miles City. The six-year-old is the son of Becky and Tim Siewing.

It was the end of an era, the last of the five thousand, as Fred Itcaina shipped out the sheep at the Matador to their new home in Idaho. The Matador had sheep grazing on the land for over 100 years.
Deputy Dan Ritchey was pictured displaying the shotgun that was the first prize in a raffle for the Phillips County Crimestoppers. Other prizes were $250 in Chamber Bucks and a set of Harvey Rattey wildlife prints.
Five county youth won honors at the Gatorade Punt, Pass and Kick competition in Lewistown. Caitlin Smith, Kelli Pankratz and Toni Ricci placed first in their age divisions, Mark Slade placed second in his, and Caleb Young placed fourth in his division.
Trenton Starkey, 9, took home two trophies at the end of the 16-race High Country Motocross Association season. He placed second overall in both the 50cc and 60cc motocross classes. His dad, Tim, placed fifth overall in the Vet’s class.
Fred and Gail Mavencamp had already been “hitched” and were inviting friends and family to a wedding reception at Homesteaders.
The families of Tweet and Betty Oxarart are hosting a 50th wedding anniversary at Roger’s Banquet Room with an open house, supper and an evening of music.
The engagement of Ella Anderson and Joe Simanton was announced by their parents, with a wedding date of Oct. 23rd planned.
The M-ettes upped their season record to 10-1 this past weekend cruising to victories over Fergus and Roundup.

Debbie Kvodstad and Byron Hould reigned as Homecoming royalty at the Malta High School. Arlene Green was FFA Sweetheart and Brent Waters was the FFA Beau. The Mustang football team won the game over Fort Benton 32-0 to put the frosting on the cake.
Eileen Hellie of Whitewater has been recognized as a commended student by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation; these students are in the upper two percent of those expected to graduate in 1975.
Emily Ann Barthelmess was the first baby born during National Pork Week and received a quilt, piggy bank and pork baby food from Pork Producers Mrs. Clayton Emond and Mrs. Sid Hould. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Barthelmess.
Winners in eight-year-old Punt, Pass & Kick were: Ross Anderson, Damon Rush and Robert Sorenson. Nine years old, Daniel Raymond, Mike Rundle and Tom Niebur. Ten-year-olds, Lee Henderson, Bradley Shell and Sheldon Neumiller. Eleven years old, Jeff Darrah, Adrian Doucette, Ralph Golik. Twelve-years-old Del Stiles, Larry Nordlund, Terry Ohs. Thirteen years old, Joe Berg, Rick Miller, Mark Halvorson.
On a cold and windy night, the Malta Mustangs downed the Shelby Coyotes on the Shelby turf, 29-18.

Phillips County was the first in the nation to surpass its quota in the USO Campaign, thanks to County Chairman James Harrison.
In an effort to whittle off another chunk of the money necessary to start work on the community’s hospital project, the Malta Jayceens announce a Farmer’s Auction will be held on Saturday. N.W. “Pete” Dobson says the affair will be held in Trafton Park if the weather is favorable and at the city hall auditorium in case the weatherman is on the prod that day.
Beet harvest is moving along rather slow and tonage is not very high. The Green brothers are working with a beet harvester, working around the clock. Donald Green and Howard Dopp are truck drivers; Carl Green, Bob Hauger and Emmett Meyer are on the day shift with George Green, Jack Korsbeck and Dale Dopp on the night shift.
At Safeway, your savings store, ground beef, fresh daily for 49 cents a pound, and chuck roast and sliced bacon at 55 cents per pound.
Thirty-five top bulls from the best breeders in the state will be brought here for the sale on Oct. 16-17. Grand champions of the show have been owned by Steve Holman in 1943 and 1944. The top sales were $1,450 in 1943 and in 1944 - $2,000.
The Malta bus roared into Hinsdale pushed by 27 strong pair of legs. It seems the bus was so disappointed over Malta’s recent defeat by Glasgow that same night, that it suffered a cracked head and just refused to go any further.
Among the visitors in Malta over the past week was Charlie Stuart, one of the fast disappearing survivors of the open range days in the Montana cattle business. Charlie said he would come more frequently except that the Fort Peck Reservoir has made a six-mile swim or ferry job out of what used to be a brief rowboat hop across the river to Leedy. Leedy, one-time post office and Bill Armington ranch headquarters, now lies under around 75 feet of water.
Feudin,’ fussin’ and fightin’ broke loose in the north country again this week as the annual Kropp-Risen controversy over the average weight of their perspective lamb crops came up for settlement. The Paul Kropp lambs won out with an average weight of 73 pounds against 66 pounds foe the Risen bunch.
Funeral services for Norval Wallace were held last Thursday. Rev. James Trimble officiated and pallbearers were Louis Ruiz, George Armstrong, Jack Reynolds, Evertt Thompson, William Armington and Fred Armstrong.

Pete Hoagland had won a purebred bull calf, one of a number being placed in north Montana by the GN Railway Company to help build up the quality of milk stock. He will use the animal for three years and then trade him off for another purebred.
“Daddy” Minugh came in from a hunting trip at Bowdoin lake to report northern ducks are coming by the thousands. Canvasbacks were especially evident.

E. H. Varney, well known horse enthusiast, was in town with the word that when he bought a pacing mare the previous spring he had received more speed than his purchase contract called for. He thought he had received a mare named Indian Papoose, but later found that the animal was really Jennie A., a pacer with a record below 2:20. The mare had proved herself in the open class at the state fair.
The Enterprise editor concerned himself at great length over the prevalent mystery of whether or not Kid Curry was still alive. The New York Herald had attributed a daring hotel robbery in San Lius, Argentina, to the Curry gang remnant and accused Harry Longbaugh, “the Sun Dance kid,” Mrs. Longbaugh and “Butch” Cassidy as having aided Curry in the holdup. The other side of the story was that Pinkerton detectives had reported killing Kid Curry in Colorado two years previous. In addition, Montana citizens had reputedly seen Curry alive within six months. No definite conclusion was reached in view of the conflicting evidence.
