One Nation, Under God
Ambitious members of the local Red Hatters Club ventured to the Chokecherry Festival in Lewistown on September 7. The group included Coleen Kraut, Jodee Lee, Marlene Holman, Judy Olson and Sharon Emond.
The welcome mat was down and the streets were lined for blocks and blocks, with a multitude of vendors and businesses with various wares, crafts, food, musicians, artisans, craftsmen and goodies. There was an abundance of chokecherry products. The festival continues to grow each year.
This was the 35th year of the Chokecherry Festival held in Lewistown, the Chokecherry Capital of Montana. Eight blocks on both sides of the street, Lewistown celebrates and welcome the 5,000 visitors to partake in the festival based around a bitter and puckery tasting maroon berry that grows in many parts of the state.
The group also enjoyed the maze which has flowers and trees as the formation. A special treat was the abundant flowers that grace the town. The event is held the first Saturday after Labor Day annually.
Adding a bit of a twist to a routine jaunt, the group came upon an incident and Kraut, an EMT, responded and offered her services. One never knows what you will encounter. The group was sure the victim was appreciative of her timing and services.
