“A cook working for the Bear Paw pool boozed up and gave the boys a touch of high life in Havre,” reported the Enterprise. At noon chow the cook attacked one of the cowpunchers, threw him and bit his shoulder severely. He then attacked the whole group with a butcher knife, only being disarmed after one or two cowboys had been slashed and badly bitten. He was finally tied up and stored in a wagon pending the arrival of the law. The charge was mayhem.
