2024 M-ette Volleyball

The Malta M-ette Volleyball team has retained plenty of talent for their 2024 campaign.

Last season the M-ettes' postseason run ended at the 2023 Northern B Divisional in Malta.

The team lost Elly Anderson and Kataya KillEagle to graduation, but brings back plenty of familiar faces including seniors Ava Hanson and Kelbie Nelson. Hanson is an outside hitter and Nelson is a defensive specialist.

"Ava and Kelbie definitely bring experience and high expectations to the table," Malta Head Coach Tasha Hines said. "Ava is playing smart, swinging hard when it's right and placing great when needed. She is one of our captains, and is doing great at the role! Kelbie is doing a great job reading her hitters and getting to the right defensive positions. They are both very coachable!"

Senior Macey Blunt will be a team manager this season due to injury.

"Macey is our statatician," Coach Hines said. "She is a huge help at practice and always there to cheer the girls on. We are so glad to have her, even though this wasn't her planned role, she's accepted it and is doing wonderful."

The junior class consists of seven athletes which include captains Kendall Clausen, an outside hitter, and Denvyr Tuss, a middle blocker.

"They both bring varsity experience and a great mindset, they were both all conference players last season," Coach Hines said.

Junior Neva Jacobson returns as a starting setter. The team welcomes Hailey Welch, a right side blocker. Shaylee Hines will play middle blocker, Brooklynn Knowles will play setter, Emree Stuart and AJ Marquis are defensive specialist.

"The juniors are all a valuable part of our team, strong mindsets with great talent!" Coach Hines said.

The team only has one underclassman on varsity; Carly Mears, a sophomore.

"She's very versatile, can play any position, she came in clutch this weekend at the Havre and Chinook Tournament, we were down two girls for personal reasons and Carly played right side blocker and did extremely well," Coach Hines said.

The M-ettes have competed in a couple of pre-season tournaments and will enter their regular season games this week.

The M-ettes played at the Chinook Invitational last Saturday, September 7.

They played Chinook in their first pool play game and went 1-1. The scores were 17-25 and 12-5. They then went 1-1 against Conrad. The scores were 20-25 and 15-7. They went 1-1 against the Roy-Winifred Outlaws. The scores were 25-24 and 5-7.

The M-ettes gained early bragging rights over rival Glasgow as Malta won both sets against the Lady Scotties. The scores were 25-14 and 25-21.

The M-ettes lost their first game of the tournament to Chinook 1-2. The scores were 25-22, 13-25, and 5-10.

The M-ettes will head to Glasgow to take on the Lady Scotties in their first game of the regular season on Thursday, September 12, at 4:30 p.m.

Malta will host the Harlem LadyCats for Homecoming on Saturday, September 14, at the Malta High School Gymnasium. The event starts at 1 p.m.
