Family members came from various parts of the states to help wish Madelyn Anderson a happy 90th birthday.
Her favorite food is chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and before she retired, she was a babysitter. The Senior Spotlight was shining on Lois Winkle, who also enjoyed the movie Downtown Wayne, probably while listening to “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” and working on word search pages.
The residents of Dodson met at a special meeting to discuss the proposed monthly water rate increase to pay for the needed $73,000 in repairs.
Bob Ereaux was among those who spoke at the dedication of the museum erected in honor of his dad, Ezzie Ereaux. Others included Ezzie’s sister, Claris Darrah and his wife, Jane Ereaux.
Celebrating the walks of life over time, Orvin Solberg portrayed Fred L. Robinson; Dr. Jim Curtis portrayed Dr. Hamilton, and Barry McNamara brought H. G. Robinson to life.
Bessie Mae Waters thanked the friends and family that helped celebrate her 98th birthday. A special thank you went out to Delmar Henry who brought his high school class over to sing happy birthday to her.
The Sheriff’s report stated a woman had called at 5:06 p.m. to report that a horse-drawn vehicle was holding up traffic; officer responded, not located. *Pedestrians & horse-drawn vehicles have the right of way.
Members of the Milk River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) joined Malta Mayor Shyla Jones as she signed a proclamation declaring Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week. Joining her were Jan Abrahamson, Mary Emily Barthelmess, Esther Brosseau.
The Malta Mustangs faced tough competition when they lined up across from the Roundup Panthers yet were able to pull off a 33-20 win against the dominant running team.

Head School Cook, Becky Green, was caught off-guard when Supt. Bill Parker informed her there were no free lunches. Affected were the staff that prepares the food, the teachers that have to sit with their class at lunchtime and one janitor. After some discussion, Parker withdrew the order.
Members of the Malta Branch Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently tied over 30 quilts which will be sent to refugees returning from Kosovo. Helping hands for the project were Bonnie Starr, Lela Scheffelmaer, Shelley Romo, Kathy Davis, Ellen Wilson, Beulah Hammond, Betty Rammel, Suzanne Giblette, Becky Humbert, Cheri LaBrie and Mildred Bauer.
Malta’s own Judy Michael won the People’s Choice Award on her painting entitled, “Fixing Fence.” The award was at the Juried 24th Annual Art Auction Exhibit at Miles City.
Coach Scott King says, “It’s a top 10’er!” referring to the 28-24 victory come-from-behind in the final seconds for a win over the Glasgow Scotties. It’s a great day to be a Mustang.
Tracie Overberg of Dodson was the varsity girls champion and Dusty Prestwich was the boys champion at the Sleeping Buffalo Run. The cross-country event was hosted by Dodson and Whitewater.
Rodney Stevens of Shelby entered pleas of guilty to operating a vehicle with an excessive alcohol consumption, a felony, and driving while license is suspended. He was released on $400 bond and sentencing was set for Oct. 4.
The grand opening of the new Malta High School was set for homecoming day on Saturday; State Representative Karl Ohs will be the guest speaker.
Dodson School Supt. Doris Nicholson gave the school board notice she would be leaving at the end of the school year. She had been made an offer she couldn’t refuse…a marriage proposal.
The resignation of Dr. Terry Jones left hospital administrator Larry Putnam surprised, as he thought Jones and the administration had reached an agreement.
Selected for Malta High School’s homecoming royalty were Ashley Fried, Tess Lundstrom, Stacey Nevrivy, Nikki Webb and Toni Perry as queen candidates. King candidates are Dustin Lundstrom, J.D. Weber, Kris LaBrie Boothe, Ryan Lankford and Tim Chell.

With 41 years of service as the District 27 School Clerk, Harry Orahood might be the oldest school clerk in the state, he is 83. A picnic honoring both Mr. and Mrs. Orahood was held at the Tallow Creek School.
John Korsbeck has been hired as the new city policeman, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Korsbeck. He served eight years in the army including two tours of Vietnam, serving as a Green Beret and is a helicopter pilot.
Orlinda Gorder and Benjamin Anderson were married in July in Gillette, Wyoming. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson of Malta.
Sheriff’s Log: Fined $5 for daytime speeding - Brian Scheffelmear, Delphus Doney, and Gail Stramberg.
The Milk River PCA will hold its grand opening on Friday. Bud Yates is the Malta manager which has its main offices in Chinook.
A Canadian man and his daughter are dead as the result of a one vehicle accident north of Loring on Monday. Robert Sorenson, 64, of Shaunavon was dead upon arrival at the hospital in Malta. His daughter, Mrs. Lynda Oakley, 27, died Tuesday at a Great Falls hospital. Oakley was driving when she lost control on the gravel road, the car skidded 374 feet on the road and another 187 feet in the ditch on the right side before turning completely over. She was thrown 55 feet from the vehicle and Sorenson was thrown 10 feet.
The Glasgow Scotties turned back the Mustangs 22-6 in a hard-hitting contest Friday in the football opener for both schools. The non-conference game was played in Glasgow.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stickley and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Oxarart extended an invitation to the wedding of their children, Jenny and Greg on Sept. 14 at the Malta Lutheran Church.
James M. Cummings has re-enlisted in the U. S. Air Force under a four-year contract.
Trent Emond, seven-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Emond of Box Elder underwent open-heart surgery in Seattle. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Harmil Emond.

Lloyd, Doris and Carolyn Knudsen moved to town for winter. Carolyn is working in town.
Sam Deniff was taken to a Great Falls hospital Monday by ambulance. He fell at his home and broke his hip.
Mrs. William Spencer returned from Rochester, Minn. where she consulted specialists.
Bernal Southwick returned this week from Great Falls where he had been receiving treatments.
Martin Matovitch has purchased a house, barn, garage and chicken house in Wagner and is going to move them out to the old Proudy place where they will live.
The Saco news was the new teachers, including Miss Janet Higgins, of Flaxville, and Palmer Scott, Jr., of Dodson.
Preparations are underway for the eighth annual Northeastern Montana Hereford Breeders’ sale. Consigned are stock owned by Steve and Everall Holman and Jack and Ted Kelly.

Dan Burke of Dodson reported a harvest of wheat averaging 25 bushels.
Good crops throughout the county were anticipated by County Agent H. L. Lantz who predicted that 1,260,000 bushels of wheat would be harvested.

Malta citizens were taking great pride in the First State Bank which showed assets of $169,914.47, according to financial statements made by C. F. Morris, vice president.
A depot was being built at Dodson “which bids fair to soon become one of the important stations on the line.”
