Mustangs Down Spartans 54-14

The Malta Mustang football team started their season off with a strong 54-14 victory over the Baker Spartans in Baker last Friday, August 30.

Malta will travel to Red Lodge to face the Rams, who just defeated the Whitehall Trojans 46-8 last Friday.

The Mustangs were led by senior quarterback Stockton Oxarart, who completed 10-of-11 pass attempts for 264 yards and five touchdowns.

Senior Blaine Downing led the rushing attack with 169 yards and two touchdowns on seven attempts (24.1 YPC). He had the longest runs of the game, a 95-yard rushing touchdown, and a 85-yard kickoff return touchdown. S. Oxarart had five carries for 32 yards. Freshman Kazner Oxarart had three carries for 30 yards. Senior Treyton Wilke had three carries for 23 yards. Junior Jayden Murnion had one carry for nine yards, and freshman Lane Spencer had one carry for seven yards.

Junior Trooper Stiles led the receiving corps with 100 yards on two catches, one of which he took 72 yards down-field for a touchdown. Wilke had four catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. Junior Dawson Hammond had three catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Mason Simanton had one catch for a 30 yard touchdown. Junior Sonny Gray had one catch for 21 yards.

Defensively, junior Landon Retan had 15 tackles. Wilke had 11 tackles and a team-leading four tackles for loss. Simanton had 11 tackles. Junior Straud Sims had 11 tackles. Sophomore Kenan LaBrie had 10 tackles. Downing had nine tackles.

S. Oxarart caused a defensive fumble that was recovered by senior Kohner Schipman.

Retan was six-of-seven on PAT kicks.
