The town of Dodson will hold a special meeting on Thursday to discuss the projected rate increase to cover the cost of repairs for the town lagoon system.

Sheriff’s Log: Deputy served a warrant on Pamela Kapp; female incarcerated on Theft-Felony x2 and Fabricating Evidence. Later transported to Valley Co Detention Center for hold. Deputy transported one adult male, Cash Kolstad, to the PC Hospital for evaluation; later transported to Valley Co. Detention Center for hold on Disorderly Conduct and Trespassing.

The newest museum on Highway 2 in Malta is set to open in conjunction with the PC Historical Walk as the Antique Modes of Transportation are held.

In only his second collegiate game with the University of Montana Grizzlies, former Mustang standout Tucker Schye made the Northwestern Energy Play of the Game on KRTV last Saturday.

Malta High School Homecoming Royalty are Amanda Mummey, D’Andre Haag, Emmy Doucette, Cole Brown, Collin Holman, Markelle Lett, Logan Whitmer and Josie LaFond.

Residents of the nursing home were treated to a movie at the Villa Theatre, compliments of owners Vikki and Jim Truelove. Ester Martin had never seen “The Wizard of Oz” and Eva Oxarart hadn’t been to a movie in over 20 years. Leo Woods was excited, as he had worked at the theatre for five years.

The Malta Mustang football boys had a close game, losing to the Red Devils 19-7.

The M-ette volleyball team took third at the Chinook Invitational last weekend.

Richard Adamson and Simon Cisson have been in the saddle for 105 days. They are retracing the Outlaw Trail from Mexico to the Canadian border.

Jess Robinson, the Senior in the Spotlight, is a lifetime rancher, who loves breakfast. His other likes include horses, western books and movies, and Christmas.

Young but strong and driven, the Saco-Hinsdale volleyball team kicked off their season with a 2-0 win over Luster Christian, then defeating Opheim 2-1 in opening competition.

Sept. 9, 1999

Hi-Line Promotions, with Loran Green and friends, earned their way into the Guinness World Book of Records by preparing a hamburger weighing 6,040 pounds at the Sleeping Buffalo.

Adrian Doucette recently joined Norwest Bank in Havre as an Ag banker. He was raised on the family farm in Wagner.

Dora Flom celebrated her 99th birthday with a party at her home attended by friends and relatives.

Judy Flatt joined the staff at the Phillips County News, she will be setting up ads and operating the compuwriter. She is a graduate of Dodson High School.

Lyle Cochran won two events to take all-around cowboy honors at the rodeo Monday. Top money earner was Todd Smith, who collected $235.20 in bull riding. Other locals placing were Don Simanton, John Row, Chris Barthelmess, Luke Kirkaldie, Vicki Olson and Joan Robinson.

The 75th anniversary of the Little White Church was set to be observed this Sunday, September 8th.

The Dodson Coyotes bounced back from a 61-46 loss to Stanford to defeat Highwood 46-43 to split the tournament action at the Big Sandy girl’s basketball tournament.

Derek Davis recovered a bad snap in the end zone for a touchdown to help the Malta frosh defeat Harlem 8-0 over the weekend.

Senator Conrad Burns was on hand Friday as the new computer room/library was dedicated at the Zortman School. Teachers were Miss Teri Buechler and Mrs. Katy Matovich.

Anthony Perry was selected to perform with the Jamestown collegiate touring choir.

Aug. 29, 1974

The Milk River Wagon Train will converge on Malta from both the north and south as the Whitewater Train joins the Malta Train pulling into Malta on Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. James Salsbery announce the engagement of their daughter Beth Yvonne, to Bud Slade, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Slade. An Oct. 12 wedding is planned.

Mr. And Mrs. Carl Heiken of Broadview announce the engagement of their daughter, Ann, to John Holman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carol Holman of Dodson; a wedding date of Nov. 2 has been chosen.

Four persons were injured, none of them seriously, in a wreck that happened near the city dump road and Highway 364 south of town. The car flew 60 feet in the air and rolled 200 feet. The driver was Lawrence Palmer, and the passengers were Melvin Spoonheim, Patricia Schwartz, and Shauna Jones.

A Wilsall man was critically injured in an accident over the Labor Day weekend. Lew Tuma and Orvin Solberg were in a head-on collision on the crest of a hill near the Tuma ranch. Others involved in accidents were James Newby of Dodson, in a one-car rollover two miles west of Dodson; and Thomas Anderson rolled a pickup two miles southeast of Dodson. Patrick Buckley of Billings was slightly injured when he went off the road about 40 miles south of Malta.

Lloyd Lefdahl was pictured serving John Andrews at the BBQ feed hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, with assistance from the Kiwanis, Phil Sims, Mervin Weeres, Bob McEwen, Mr. and Mrs. Lefdahl and Mr. and Mrs. John Starkey.

Chip Young was among more than 1,500 cadets who entered their freshman year at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

1949

Herb Friede and his wife had a ringside seat and watched from their car on a hilltop northwest of Saco as lightning ignited eight prairie fires in the Cole area northwest of Saco. Friede said the ceiling was so low that when the severe storm broke, the air was so full of electricity it could practically be smelled. At the Aiken ranch, a sheepherder had such a close call that the Friede’s stayed with him until he got over his fright. When the storm struck, he was pouring himself a cup of coffee. The bolt of lightning knocked the coffee pot from his hand.

Four boys put on quite a party when they started out by breaking into the GN Lounge basement and taking a case of beer, and proceeded to drive to the home of one of the boys where they consumed the entire case. Feeling pretty good about the time they started back to get another supply and on the way back and took pot shots at the city street lights, breaking five in all. On the way down, one boy smashed a window at the Wrecking shop. They secured another case of beer from the GN and drank it. The police force was notified by this time and one boy was in custody in an hour. Information is being filed against them in juvenile court.

Ken Mecklenberg is helping Ray Holzhey combine the crop on the Holzhey place. Crops are very poor, but we have to save what we can get.

100 years ago

The death of Mrs. Ray Mummey, 18, a former resident of Dodson, is being investigated at Wallace, Idaho. She died after a short illness.

Rev. Charles B. Cole had preached the anniversary sermon at the observance held at the Margaret Boles Memorial Church in Midale. People from all sections of the county were present.

M. M. Wiley, a recent graduate of McGill Law School in Montreal, had decided to open a law office in Malta.

A. W. Schilling was the new agent in Malta. His wife was day operator. Schilling replaced Dan Kenyon who was promoted to livestock agent for the Burlington.
