One Nation, Under God

I Was Wrong About Mr. Magoo

It is August 28… So before I forget. Happy birthday to my father Hernando Bibbs. Love you and it was good to see you last week.

Last week, I had the opportunity to fly out to my hometown, Bolingbrook, Illinois, to visit my mother, father and my stepmother.

It was a good trip overall. It was full of highlights. There was some sadness because the family I grew up with has gone their separate ways, but we made the best of it and spent some time with my mother and father.

One highlight was going to Scene 75 in Romeoville, the town next door, and town that I went to school at.

Romeoville has really flourished since I graduated from Romeoville High School in 2005. One of their latest additions was the addition of Scene 75, an indoor amusement park that was nearing its completion the last time that we were in Chicagoland in 2022.

This put Scene 75 on our radar for a while, and made it a must-see place for us.

We had arrived. We bought passes and tokens for the games. The boys had a blast! PJ drove his first real Go Karts. PJ and Lincoln went through the line of bumper cars, and I was called up to join them on their first bumper car experience! It was great! Seeing the videos, you could really see the joy on the kids' faces, especially as they rammed their bumper cars into each other and me.

They played a plethora of arcade games and I even got in on the action and won the Cyclone game “Stop the Light” and picked up a swift 227 tickets… I earned close to 800 tickets that day, most of which came through writing a Google review.

We ate ice cream a few times on the trip, a lot of pizza, and stopped at several of our favorite places.

I had the chance to watch most of the Bears preseason game with one of my closest cousins growing up and my auntie. This was an eye-opening highlight of the trip for Susan, the boys, and my mother. There were a lot of laughs that day.

One of the most heartwarming moments was when Lincoln opted to stay with my mother while Susan, PJ, and I went shopping for school clothes. Before then I assured the boys that my mother’s nine-year-old Tuxedo cat, named Mr. Magoo, hated children and would never warm up to them.

Thirty minutes later, my mother sent us a few pictures of Linc either playing with the cat or petting the cat. Mr. Magoo became a fan of Lincoln and my family. My allergies went wild, but I can say that a certain over-the-counter nasal spray was extremely effective.

Now, it is finally back to school for our boys. I believe the last-second vacation got the kids in gear for school. Before we left for Chicago, they didn’t want to go to school, and now, they are both ready!
