One Nation, Under God

Sherman Von Holzhey (May 13, 1967 - August 15, 2024)

Sherman Von Holzhey, 57, passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2024, in Malta, Montana.

Born in Havre, Montana on May 13, 1967, he had a rough start to life, needing life-saving surgery at just a few weeks old. He grew up in the south country like many other farm and ranch kids. Von attended Sun Prairie School and Malta High School, where he participated in 4H and wrestling.

After Von earned a degree in accounting from MSU Bozeman, he returned to the ranch where he was able to enjoy shooting and hunting when not working cows and crops. Like his father, Von could shoot like Quigley from the movies.

He experienced some culture shock when he left the ranch and moved to Malta, but eventually found his tribe that helped him assimilate and flourish. Von became a member of the Sons of the American Legion and enjoyed spending time at the VFW, working military funerals, and dancing at events hosted here. He also enjoyed and excelled at playing cards and pool.

Von is survived by his aunt and uncle Marda and Jay Southwick, his uncle Ralph Kolczak, brother and sister-in-law Raymond Eugene and Judy Holzhey of Fargo, North Dakota, twin brother Stacey Ron and sister-in-law Steph Holzhey of Lewistown, Montana, nephews JR Abrahamson, Logan Abrahamson and Frank Holzhey, nieces Mary Abrahamson and Grace PerDue (Holzhey) and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Diane Holzhey and sister Janice Abrahamson.

A Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on August 21, 2024, at Wilderness Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on August 22, 2024, at Wilderness Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Society for Deaf Children.
