One Nation, Under God

Loring/Affinity News for Wednesday, August 14, 2024

By the time you get this, the schools will be open with many children playing at recess and learning their reading writing, and ‘rithmatic! Wow! Seems like just a week or so when I watched the junior/senior highs present their final project! I hope everyone has a great year!

Last week, I missed Etta Blunt winning a rosette for her pillowcase sewing project. Congratulations, Etta!

A fruit truck comes through Billings every so often. This time it was peaches from Colorado. My sister Debbie and I decided to go to the truck and get a lug of them. But Debbie needed to put some air in her tire. She said she didn’t need me to help, but when it wasn’t happening, I got out to see what the problem was. I unrolled the air hose a bit then I saw a guy come out of the gas station and I asked if he could please help us. He got it up in no time! Then he handed Debbie a $20 and he also gave me a $20, he just said he likes to be nice every so often. So, I’m holding my folding money and thinking about how I could use it to pay it forward.

Debbie and I had been wondering how we would carry 40#’s of peaches to our car. The line to the truck was weaving in and out of the vehicles and once it started to move it went kind of fast. Debbie started talking to a young man behind us and they were going to can these peaches. He said “I don’t look like it but I’m a doctor. When we got to the peaches, he just grabbed out two boxes and delivered them to the car! Debbie gave him our pay-it-forward money. He didn’t want to take it, but she told him our story, so as he left, I heard him say “I’ll pay it forward.” And I said that’s the idea!

Just goes to show how things happen for a reason! Most of the farmers are busy with combining. I’ve heard that the crops aren’t too bad!

I’ll be up there in Northern Phillips County next weekend for a few days. Maybe I’ll run into you!

Have a great week!
