One Nation, Under God
The 2024 Phillips County Fair AMX's A Main Event was won by a driver that has been a part of Dodson AMX for 20 years, but hadn't secured the top prize until Sunday, August 4.
Frank Kindle was able to do a victory doughnut after winning the 12-lap event in a car that he had fixed up a few days before the races.
"It feels good. It really does," Kindle told the PCN. "It's like it feels really good considering that I put the car together in three days, along with watering the track and trying to get it all prepped."
With parts for his 1977 Z28 Camaro in the mail so close to the race, Kindle did not even know if he was going to make it in time to compete.
"I changed tie rod ends, transmission filters, and a new fuel cell," Kindle said.
The car was originally built by Mark Newby. In year's past, Kindle has driven a G Body or A Body car by General Motors.
Though Kindle knew that the new car might be a part of this year's success, he was asked what his key to victory was.
"Just put it to the floor," Kindle said.
Jalen Lamb (a cousin to Frank Kindle) was second in the A Main Event, but he provided the event with one of it's more sentimental memories as he proposed to Lily Taylor, who excitedly said yes.
Lamb was asked about the moment.
"Well, I was so nervous that I could barely talk," Jalen said. "I was more nervous for that than I was for the race."
Lamb had a consistent run in the A Main. He was passed by Jamie Jaynes, but eventually caught up and secured a cash winning spot. He was asked about his success.
"It held together, so that's all I wanted," Lamb said.
Tyson Jones was third in the A Main.
Logan Kent won the B Main Event and Cassie Tucker was second. Though both racers could've been bumped up to the A Main, Kent and Tucker decided to decline the option. Gabe LaRoque was third in the B Main.
The B Main race featured a dangerous situation during the seventh of eight laps, where Justin Lamb's car rolled over twice and caught fire. Justin was okay and the fire was extinguished. Due to the fire, the race restarted from the seventh lap. Justin was awarded the Hard Luck Trophy.
Adrianna Kent was the winner of the Powder Puff Race.
Dusty Dowell was the winner of the Pitman Race.
Prior to the trophy rounds, heat 1 was won by Jamie Jaynes. Daryl Demarais was second, and Jones was third.
Heat 2 was won by Travis Anderson. Kindle was second, and Ja. Lamb was third.
