Horse Show Kicks Off P.C. Fair

Barley, boots, buckets, buckles and bling filled the Milk River Pavilion on Saturday and the 4-H horse project participants performed before a judge and live audience. The event was the Horse Show as part of the Phillips County Fair 2024. From nine a.m. until 5 p.m., minus a 45-minute break for lunch, the action was nonstop.

The day started with twins Karlie and Kenzie LaBrie meeting head-to-head for Senior Showmanship. The judge selected Kenzie as the winner in this category. That was followed by Advanced Junior Showmanship where Anna Brown, Landon Fuller, Lyla Warren and Mackenzie Witmer pushed Sadie Lamoreau, Zander Fuller and Riya Salveson to excel to take first, second and third, respectively.

Winning the Beginning Junior division were Will Brown, Kesi Salveson and Lucy Salveson, in that order.

When it was Bareback Equitation 4th and Up time, Riya Salveson claimed the honor, placing over Karlie LaBrie, Kenzie LaBrie, Sadie Lamoreau, Lyla Warren and Mackenzie Witmer.

In the 1st-3rd, Anna Brown won over Will Brown and Kesi Salveson.

Under the Horsemanship category, Lucy Salveson placed first; Horsemanship 2 winners were Will Brown and Landon Fuller. Horsemanship 3 placers were Anna Brown and Zander Fuller. Riya Salveson and Lyla Warren claimed Horsemanship 4; Sadie Lamoreau, Horsemanship, and Karlie LaBrie and Kenze LaBrie were the winners in Horsemanship 6.

Sadie Lamoreau won the 2-Year Old Under Saddle; Kenzie LaBrie won the 3-Year Under Saddle; and Karlie LaBrie claimed the award for Level 4. Green Horse Level 1 honors went to Riya Salveson and Mackenzie Witmer.

In the Ranch Horse division, Anna Brown and Kesi Salveson worked hard to make Zander Fuller and Lyla Warren take first and second. Mackenzie Witmer won first in Level 2, and Level 4 saw Karlie LaBrie placing over Kenzie LaBrie.

Seven youths competed in the Advanced Junior Class; Anna Brown, Landon Fuller, Zander Fuller, Sadie Lamoreau, Riya Salveson, and Lyla Warren. Mackenzie Witmer won the trophy.

In the Senior category, the LaBrie twins went head-to-head again, with Karlie taking the top honor. Beginning Juniors Kesi Salveson and Lucy Salveson worked diligently and had near-perfect routines; Will Brown was selected as the winner.

Lyla Warren had an interesting and talented horse entry in the Miniature Horsemanship entry, which won her a trophy.

The program ended with Anna Brown and Kesi Salveson doing a routine with sparkles and bling in the Freestyle Category, They were followed by Riya Salveson performing a beautiful dance routine in the category, and closing the performances was Sadie Lamoreau and the lights dimmed as she and her horse, who was lit up from nose to tail, and it was evident, time had been spent on these routines.

The conclusion of the awards was the awarding of the Judge's Choice Award. Miss Kesi Salveson was selected by the judge as the one who had caught her attention and eye all day long throughout the performances.
