One Nation, Under God

Wrestlers Bring Home Hardware from South Dakota

On Saturday, two wee pound wrestling whizzes traveled to Spearfish, South Dakota. They were bound for the 2024 Blackhills Night Brawl, a unique wrestling event. It is held on a football field, where mats are laid out and the youth wrestle "under the lights."

The two mighty mouses were Sidney (age 6) and her little sister, Teddi (age 5), of Malta. Apparently, they didn't get enough wrestling in during the season, or they just love the sport. Wanna make any bets...to win, lay it on their love for the sport.

Sidney and Teddi are the daughters of Scott and Corrine (Pekovitch) Hould and have been wrestling since they shed the diapers. This go-around, they had two new angels peeking through the clouds guiding and praying for them, their Grandma Lona (Pekovitch) and Great-Granddad, Lester Wiebe, who they have always called "Grandparent."

The title of the event was a bit deceiving, in that the matches were all over and the field cleared before the lights even came on.

It was a good day for the pumped up pistols, and both won their matches and claimed first place. They won an impressive trophy and apparently it came with a ton of smiles.

They are now back to their horses, fencing and being kids before they start school on August 14th. Sidney is a first grader and Teddi begins kindergarten. They will have some stories and tales to tell for show and tell, and pictures to back it up.

Nice job, girls, you took the Mustang Blue spirit with you and left it all on the mat!
