Swim Team Heads to State Meet

The Malta Swim Team competed at the 2024 Montana Federation of Swimmers Eastern Divisional meet in Glendive last weekend, and all four swimmers qualified for the State meet in Sidney this weekend.

Due to their size, Malta will compete in the Class C Division at state.

“Overall for the amount of kids we had I believe we did a great job,” Malta Swim Team Head Coach Danika Wilke said. “We were the smallest team to compete in the eastern divisional swim meet with only having three swimmers.”

The team was led by 14-year-old Silas Young, who scored 29 points for the boys’ team in the Boys 13-14 Division. Kael Young, a sixteen-year-old, scored 27.5 points in the Boys 15-19 Division.

The girls’ team was led by Taya Wilke who scored 24 points.

S. Young was second in the Boys 13-14 Meter Breaststroke Finals with a time of 1:32.16 (1:31.25 in prelims). He was third in the 50 Meter Freestyle Finals with a time of 32:17 (32.35 in prelims). He was sixth in the 100 Meter Freestyle Finals with a time of 1:16.02 (1:14 in prelims).

S. Young competed with K. Young, D. Wilke, and T. Wilke all competed in the Mixed 15-19 200 Meter Freestyle and 200 Meter Medley events. The group was third in the Medley with a time of 2:34.14 and fourth in the Freestyle with a time of 2:12.99.

K. Young was third in the Boys 15-19 100 Meter Freestyle Finals with a time of 1:01.89 (1:01.82 in prelims). He was also fourth in the 50 Meter Freestyle Finals with a time of 28.05 (27.96 in prelims). He was fourth in the 50 Meter Flystroke Finals with a time of 32.76 (32.70 in prelims).

T. Wilke was fourth in the Girls 13-14 100 Meter Breaststroke Finals with a time of 1:44.52 (1:41.94 in prelims). She was sixth in the 50 Meter Freestyle Finals with a time of 35.33 (35.33 in prelims), and sixth in the 200 Meter IM with a time of 3:39.95.
