One Nation, Under God

Catherine Faydo Black September 10, 1946 - July 16, 2024)

Catherine Faydo Black, 77, passed away July 16th at the Goodnow Cottages at Grandview at Benefis in Great Falls, where she has lived for the past year and a half. Cathy was born September 10, 1946, to parents Jack and Hanna Faydo. She joined seven older brothers and sisters at home. She grew up in Malta, going to school there until she graduated in 1964. After graduation, she went to Seattle and spent time with her older sister Patsy while she attended nursing school. Knowing that wasn't for her, she returned to Malta. At a dance, she met the love of her life, Bill Black in 1965. They were married a year later on September 24. They lived and worked on the family farm south of Malta. There they raised three children Tom, Hannah, and Liz.

She loved the farm life. Bill used to call her the chief cook and bottle washer, as she was always cooking, baking, and washing baby bottles. For kids and critters alike. She would always take meals out to Bill while he was out in the field working.

In her spare time, she made quilts, put together puzzles, and she read the Bible Daily. She loved music as well. Especially Elvis Presley. She sang along to his records often. Her love of singing was found at the Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. She could be heard above everyone else. She also sang for many funerals.

She had a beautiful voice. She also loved her kitties! The last one going with her to Great Falls.

She had two kidney transplants in her lifetime, the last one lasting 30-plus years.

In 2020, she and Bill gave up the farm life they both loved so much and moved to town. After Bill passed in 2021, she liked to decorate her little house. In 2022, she moved to the Grandview in Great Falls and called that home.

She is survived by her three children Tom (Denise) Black of Malta, Hannah Cornell of Hardin, and Liz (Rodney) Sangster of Great Falls. Four grandchildren: Cassandra (John) Olszweski of Havre, MT, Michael (Rachel) Black of Andover, KS, Matt Cornell of Glendive, MT, and Brent (Julie) Sangster of Great Falls. Three great-grandchildren Emily, Blake, and Bryce Sangster.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents Jack and Hannah, and four siblings Jack, Bob, Chris (Pepper) Faydo, and sister Barbara Morelli.

A Funeral Service was held on Monday, July 22 at 3 p.m. at Wilderness Funeral Home in Malta.
