American Museum of Natural History Visits GPDM

Recent visitors to the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum (GPDM) in Malta included a group of paleontologists from the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. The team, led by Dr. Neil Landman (far right in photo) a specialist on shelled cephalopods and particularly ammonites and nautiloids that were plentiful in the seaway that once covered this part of North America.

Dr. Neil Landman lauded the local museum for the extensive Eichorn Collection of historic sea creatures from the region. Of particular interest was the very large ammonites and the collection of Hoploscaphites macroconch and microconch on exhibit at GPDM. The team is conducting field work and enjoying the landscapes of the region while in eastern Montana.

To learn more about Montana's watery history when sea creatures ruled, visit the GPDM in Malta, Monday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays 12:30 to 5.
