A “bead” found in the Little Rockies near Zortman will be sent to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington by the finder. Art Deininger, while doing some geological work in the mountains, found the bead. After cleaning it, he discovered that it was carved with circular rings. It may be a pigeon blood ruby. Deininger thinks the gem may even be a relic of pre-Indian times. He figures that because part of it was drilled the gem may be part of a necklace and he has attempted, without success, to relocate the spot where he found it.

Lang said the bandits entered the building by kicking out a panel in the back door and unlocking it. No money was taken, and everything appeared to be in order except for the five missing quarts of liquor. Lang believes that several drunks entered the Pastime to have “another snifter.”
