One Nation, Under God
Thirteen schools ascended on the Malta gym floors over the weekend as local sports advocate, Mo Denham, hosted his annual basketball summer tournament. The games included varsity and JV teams from across the hi-line and it was a time for squads to reunite and play against some schools that will be on their play list this fall. The games were played at the high school as well as at the Old Gym, due to a flooding issue at the high school that left one half (west court) out of the rotation of floors upon which games could be played.
The two-day event was a chance to see what the teams could do with new members, and the absence of the classes that had graduated this spring. It was also a time for old rivals to see what the other teams were looking like. Many teams used the weekend as a preparation for those planning to compete in the Big Sky State Games in Billings in July.
Some came semi-injured, some came with knees and shoulders taped and most of them came fired up, ready for action. The games were pretty well on schedule, one hour between games, and there were fortunately no reported injuries. It was a great weekend to “PLAY BALL!”
