Curtis and Bonnie Starr of Malta accepted a call to serve in the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friday, June 20 will be a special day; a memorial will be held for Delmar Demarais, headed by his daughter, Debbie, and will be a tribute to his life and style. A riderless horse, with boots in the stirrups backward, will be part of the parade from Delmar’s old house to the cemetery.

Former Dodson High School graduate of the class of 1932, Don H. Lee, was honored with his induction into the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame. He raised horses, jockeyed some during race meets and participated in riding broncs during local rodeos.

Malta Public Schools were facing the daunting task of filling nine positions opened up by the retirement of nine staff members.

John Meisdalen was awarded a Bronze Mustang Award in recognition of his seven years of service on the Malta School Board.

With dwindling members down to two, the Little Rockies Fine Arts Council may be hosting their last gig, with “As You Like It” scheduled for July 7th.

Twenty-three-year-old Jaymz Shippen was arrested for parole violations, and several additional counts and charges.

Jaycee Erickson of Saco and Malta’s Spencer Gibbs and Brylee French were featured in the PCN at the Boots and Saddles Youth Rodeo.

After a rough year last year for the swim team, due to the members being so young, the Malta Swim team is looking to make noise this season with fresh new faces.

The cause of the June 9th fire which destroyed the Mustang Lanes, Jerry’s Barber Shop and the Stockman Bar was being looked at as “other than accidental or natural” according to Deputy Sheriff Steve Kirkegard.

Eleven-year-old Gary Douglas Hawkins died Sunday from injuries received in a horse-riding accident in Dodson.

Blue-green algae was blamed for the death of 13 cows and two calves at Nelson Reservoir. Dr. Anne Johnson, County Health Officer, confirmed the deaths and five or six cattle remain affected after ingesting the algae-laden water. This was the first case reported in the state.

The Alpha Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma has awarded the recruitment award of $500 to Janine Hould of Malta. She is enrolled in her senior year at MSU-N majoring in elementary education with a minor as a reading specialist.

Brian Lotton and Greta Dahlstrom announced their engagement, with a July 17th wedding planned.

Marty and Shawna Jensen are pleased to announce the arrival of their new little boy, Tell Z. Jensen, weighing nine pounds, 10-1/2 oz., and was 21 inches long. He was born in Winnemucca, NV.

Joyce Wright, as treasurer of the Malta Dirt Daubers, presented Todd and Tonia Simanton with a flower planter as one of Malta’s newest businesses. The Simanton’s purchased Bill’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning from Bill Crowder.

Financial Pacific Insurance Company has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for setting the fire at the Mustang Lanes on June 9.

Walt Stevens, a former Malta High School graduate, finished out his senior year at Jamestown College by winning the indoor conference championship title in the 800-meter race. He is the son of Lee and Barbara Stevens of Malta.

The Carver Family Cabin on the Missouri River will be the venue for the wedding of Todd Carver and Bobbie Jean Mainard on June 19th at 3 p.m. A reception and dance will follow at the Boiler Room at the GN at 7 p.m.

Ten Boy Scouts from Malta got to see what it is like to attend a Boy Scout Camp-o-ree. Attending were Adam Bemis, Matt Bolland, Patrick Brady, Karl Harms, Adam Henderson, Ryan Kovach, Lance Lee, Chris Mavencamp, Jared Pankratz, and Darin Zanto. Adults included Jack Motichka, Denis Bolland, John Demarais, Mike Carney, Steve Schumacher, Jim Brady, and Paula and Holly Bolland.

Mrs. Jess Robinson, secretary of the District 1 Rodeo Association, reports that about 150 participants have registered so far for the rodeo to be held starting Friday, June 21st. There will be an added feature for the rodeo, a greased pig contest on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Saddles will be presented to the all-around cowboy and cowgirl.

Discussion of plans for the 5th Annual Milk River Wagon Train will be on the agenda for the Milk River Wagon Train general meeting on June 28th. The public is invited to help select the dates, routes, committees and new officers.

John Richardson was elected president of the Malta Kiwanis Club. Ken Cox was elected first vice-president and Franklin Smith was elected second vice-president. Marvin Lundman and Leonard Leader told the Club members about their new Hi-Line Packing Plant.

Gene McCracken, who heads the Malta committee which is seeking a new doctor for the community, announced this week that Dr. Jan K. Ramaiya of Saskatoon, Sask., Canada has indicated that he is coming to Malta and will be associated with Dr. R. M. Wiprud.

Malta is making plans to host the Montana Volunteer Firemen’s Convention in June of 1975. The event is expected to attract between 250-275 firemen. Malta firemen attending the Laurel event this year were successful in the bidders for the convention. Those attending were Jim Allen, Maynard LaFond, Gordon Haugen and Cliff Lundstrom. They took the old 1928 fire engine owned by the city and it was said to have attracted a lot of attention in the convention parade.

Francis Elliott and Bob Forbes ranchers of Assiniboine Creek region had a piece of hard luck returning from a trip to Lake McGregor, near Marion. With a load of poles aboard, Elliott’s truck overturned near Gilford when it was sideswiped by a passing car which misjudged the closeness of a car approaching in the westbound lane. The result was considerable of a mess, but the two Malta men were able to right their truck, reload the poles and proceed to Havre under their own power, to secure additional poles. Neither suffered more than slight bruises.

With three wins and two losses to their credit, the Malta Legion Juniors will meet at the Havre Juniors on the Trafton Park diamond on June 12. “If you want to see the Malta boys in action, we’ll see you at the park,” says George Walker, manager of the Junior Legion ball team.

In the Thursday night game, Jerry Nordlund led the batting with five hits for six tries at bat, hitting three two-baggers and two one-baggers. Rudy Erickson, who is playing his first year in baseball, batted four hits in four times at bat.
