Gone to Pieces to host "Jean Rag Quilt" Class

Anita Green of Gone to Pieces and Penny Lind plan to host a “Jean Rag Quilt” class using old jeans and leftover flannel (shirts, sheets, etc.). Participants in 4th and 5th grade, or older, will be organized in pairs to complete the project.

The vision is to help participants make a cozy quilt for the winter, to teach an age-old craft, and eventually hold a class every summer. As participants get older and their skills improve, the type of quilt can be expanded.

In July, the formal class will be once a week for three weeks, with help from adult volunteers. During Gone to Pieces store hours, participants will be able to drop in to work on their project with help from owner, Anita Green.

An organizational meeting will be held on June 26th at 6:30 p.m. at Gone to Pieces, 135 S 2nd St E, Malta, Mont., in their back room with the time and date of classes to be discussed at this time. Please use the alley door to enter the shop. Interested participants can call Gone to Pieces at 406-654-1649 to sign up before the meeting to secure a spot as space is limited.

Green already has some supplies and bags for the project. Participants are asked to bring a large cardboard box to use to cut the pattern for the quilt, and a pair of sturdy scissors. Gone to Pieces staff and volunteers will show participants how to make the pattern, demonstrate and cut out quilt squares (to be stored in supplied personal bag), and answer any questions. Two machines will be available for use at the shop, or the participant can bring their own once the class starts.

Gone to Pieces will be accepting donations of jeans, flannel shirts, and fabric for the “Jean Rag Quilt” class. Please drop off at Gone to Pieces.
