Class C Track: All Teams To Be Respresented in Great Falls

The Dodson, Saco and Whitewater teams each saw success at the Eastern C Divisional in Wolf Point on Thursday, May 16.

Each team will be represented at the 2024 State C Track and Field Meet in Great Falls this weekend. The event starts on Thursday, May 23 through May 25.

The Saco Lady Panthers placed highest amongst Phillips County teams, placing third with a score of 83 points. They were behind Savage who had 84.5 points, and Scobey who won the event with 118 points.

"Though we might be few in number, we are fierce," Saco Head Coach Kelly Downing said of her Panthers. "I anticipate seeing many of our athletes making the podium several times to represent Saco."

The Whitewater Lady Penguins were fourth with 49 points, and the Dodson Lady Coyotes had one point and were fourteenth.

In the men's meet, Saco was sixth with 35 points, Dodson was twelfth with 12 points, and Whitewater was sixteenth with one point.

Saco

The Lady Panthers were led by senior Teagan Erickson. Erickson won the long jump and triple jump events with marks left at 17-2 and 35-7 respectively. She was also second in shot put with a throw of 33-7.75, second in javelin with a personal best of 123-5, and third in high jump after clearing 5-2.

Senior Josie Brown won the 300 hurdles with a personal best of 44.76. She was also second in the 400 with a personal best of 58.32. She was third in the 100 with a time of 13.01 and third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.90.

Freshman Emerson Downing won pole vault by tying her personal best of 9-0. Downing also qualified in the 300 hurdles with a personal best of 50.72.

The Panthers were led by junior Blaine Downing who won the 100 with a time of 11.42. Downing took second in the 400 with a time of 51.56. He was third in the 200 with a personal best of 23.44 and fourth in high jump after clearing 6-0.

Freshman Laytin Erickson was fourth in pole vault after clearing 11-0 and sixth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 19.51. Freshman Jacob Brown was fifth in javelin with a personal best of 149-7.

Whitewater

The Lady Penguins were led by Shelbi LaBrie who won the 3200 with a time of 11:57.14. She was also second in the 800 with a time of 2:25.70.

Though she did not run the 1600 at the Eastern C, LaBrie has posted the fastest 1600 time in Class C this year (5:15.74) and is prequalified. The closest time is a 5:34.37 by Nikki Nau of Sunburst.

LaBrie has the fastest 3200 time this year of 11:48.14. Nau is second with a time of 11:54.78. LaBrie pre-qualified in the event earlier this season.

Senior Paige Wasson won the javelin title with a throw of 126-6.

The long relay consisting of Ava Hanley, Kennedy Simonson, Kendall Scheffelmear, and P. Wasson was second with a time of 4:26.12.

Simonson, a sophomore, was third in javelin with a personal best of 119-04.

Scheffelmear, a senior, was fifth in the 300 hurdles with a personal best of 49.65. She was also fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.87.

Hanley, a senior, was sixth in the 100 hurdles with a personal best of 19.04.

Korbyn Skubinna will be representing the Penguins. He was sixth in pole vault by clearing 9-6.

Dodson

The Coyotes were led by sophomore Donovan Posey who took third in the 1600 with a personal best of 4:54.83. He also qualified in the 800 and placed fifth with a personal best of 2:11.68.

"I'm super proud of how far these kids have come from the beginning of the year to now," Dodson Head Coach Adrianna Bibeau said. "They've been putting in the work in the weight room, on the track and in the field. They've persevered through the poor weather this spring that affected both practice and the meets they competed in and still reached their goals this spring."

Junior Stiffarm, a junior, was fourth in triple jump with a personal best of 39-8.50.

Though they did not qualify, the team's long relay consisting of Sebastian Best, Forrest Bessman, Lance KillEagle and Posey posted a time of 4:08.91, a new school record. The original record was 4:10.55.

Junior Amara Cochran punched her ticket to state to represent the Lady Coyotes. Cochran was sixth in discus with a personal best of 85-9.

"It's a really great feeling, especially as a first year head coach, to see these kids succeed even through all the adversity they've experienced this year," Coach Bibeau said. "I'm excited to see how well they compete at state level and to see them represent Dodson!"
