One Nation, Under God
Wednesday, April 17th, Forrest Bessman, a student at Dodson High School, walked into the gymnasium in a state of confusion and wonderment, as did many of his peers. Present in the gymnasium were faces he recognized, as well as a few new ones. He even questioned his mom, Amber, what was going on, and merely got a shrug of the shoulders in response.
Things began to unfold as Riley Abrahamson of the Phillips County Ambulance Service introduced himself, EMS Coordinator Colleen Kraut, and PC EMS member, William Hofer. He then shared the purpose of the assembly...which was to recognize Forrest with a special award from the ambulance service.
Abrahamson shared, "Forrest, in recognition of your extraordinary bravery, selflessness, and unwavering courage in
which you provided life-saving first aid following a significant motor vehicle accident, where you displayed exceptional valor and compassion in assisting your brother, Dirk Bessman.
Your courageous actions exemplify the highest ideals of humanity and serve as an inspiration to all. Your quick thinking, decisive actions, and unwavering dedication to saving lives reflect the true spirit of heroism.
Presented with deepest gratitude by the Phillips County Ambulance Service on April 17, 2024."
There were a few dry eyes at the end of the short ceremony, more so, there was an everlasting impression on all those present when the impact of the award stirred their hearts. It was a way to bring to the world we live in that heroes don't always wear jersey numbers, padded gear, or wear sponsored shoes. They are right here among us. At any moment, we might be faced with a similar situation. It is then that we hope someone will act and respond with hesitation.
Forrest, we share in the EMS's belief in you and your quick and life-saving choice.
