One Nation, Under God
VFW Buster Deo Post 4067 has set May 18th for the DUSTY PRESTWICH MEMORIAL PINEWOOD DERBY set to start at 11 a.m.. The VFW Post said, "We strive to bring our community together in celebration of our fallen brother. Dusty Prestwich was a dear friend to many, a veteran of a combat environment, a hilarious individual, hard worker, proud father and a genuine human being deserving of commemoration."
Sign up forms are available at Malta Post 4067 and at Ezzie's Wholesale, Inc. On Hwy 2 East in Malta.
Kits are available upon payment and registration which will include the car kit, a drink ticket, a door prize ticket and the rules and regulations of the event.
The derby will be conducted on the same track as the Boy Scout Pinewood Derby races. The public is encouraged to sign up and support the event. If you yourself don't want to prepare a car, sponsor a kid who would like to compete in the event. By paying it forward, everyone wins, the fun doubles and little hearts are happy, too.
Fifty percent of the proceeds will be paid out in awards; and 25% will be paid out to the Boys and Girls Club. The VFW will retain 25% to go toward sponsoring community events.
Trophies will be presented for first, second, and third place.
In addition to those awards, there will be trophies awarded for the hard luck, coolest, ugliest, and slowest cars. There are several possibilities to capture some hardware and fame while having a good, fun, wholesome day.
Check with the VFW if you would like to help a kid in the event. The event is open to anyone, any age...just bring your car ready to spins its wheels and head for the checkered flag.
