One Nation, Under God
The Dodson Coyotes and Lady Coyotes track teams welcome a few new talented faces in 2024, as well as a new head coach, who was an assistant in 2023.
The team welcomes Adrianna Bibeau as their new head coach. Coach Bibeau was an assistant last year under former coach Tianna Bloomer.
Bibeau competed as a Malta M-ette track athlete during her sophomore and senior year in high school. It was during her senior season that Bibeau helped Malta earn the 2016 State Title in track and field. She competed in Malta basketball and volleyball before graduating in 2016. Coach Bibeau then played volleyball for Lake Region State College.
Coach Bibeau then transferred to the University of Minnesota-Morris where ultimately she ended up competing collegiately in track and field.
"I competed in discus, shot put, javelin and hammer for three years while I was still going to school," Bibeau said. "I never made it to Nationals but I was competitive and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity I had to compete at that level."
In working with the Dodson track teams, she described the group as young and hungry. The team only has one senior this season, Sebastian Best who has competed with the team for the past few years.
"The beginning of this year, I went through all of the high school track records and ordered a new Track and Field Record board for the entryway to the gym," Coach Bibeau said. "The main thing I noticed is that most of those records on that board are the same records from the 80's if not before. I think the most recent record on the board is Christina Jayne's Shot Put record. So, because of this, the main goal of most of these kids this year is to replace those records to not only make them better records but recent as well."
There were no state performers last season, but Coach Bibeau believes that the team has the potential to make the event scheduled in Great Falls on Friday, May 24 through Saturday, May 25.
"...We have some kids that are looking really good when it comes to their chances at making it to state," Coach Bibeau said. "Specifically, Junior Stiffarm in the high jump, Donovan Posey in the mile and 800, Lance KillEagle in the two mile, Mason LoneBear in the javelin and Amara Cochran in the discus. On top of those kids having a good chance of making it in their individual events, our boys 4x100 relay is looking really good and improving every day."
Dodson has been outside for most of their practices, but haven't been able to attend a meet yet due to the cancellations and postponements.
This spring has actually been pretty warm and we've gotten to have quite a few practices outside," Coach Bibeau said. "Way more than last year at this time that's for sure! It took some time for our track to dry so we did a lot of conditioning in the street but this last week we've been able to get out on the track and have seen some huge improvements in the quality of our practices."
