One Nation, Under God

Legion Juniors Add New Project

The American Legion Auxiliary Juniors of Malta Post 57 have added a new project this year as part of their service to the men and women who have served in the military.

This year they are preparing small packets of seeds for an annual flower, the "Forget Me Not." The small plastic bags contain seeds and planting instructions. It was decided to send seeds rather than starting the flower, as weather conditions in Montana were a factor.

The Juniors will provide the families of local veterans who pass away with the packets at the time of their funeral or memorial service. It is a simple and quiet way to extend a message of thanks to the family for the sacrifices their loved one gave to our nation by serving in the various branches of the military.

While the American Legion members are not involved in service abroad like the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) are, any member of the military who passes away will be remembered by the young ladies. Juniors are age birth to eighteen. Currently there are no youth groups in the VFW.

The first family that the love packets were given to was Carol Schumacher, widow of Steven Schumacher who passed away last week. His funeral was Monday, April 1st.

Carol and her sons lost a loved one, we lost a friend and veteran. God's blessings and a prayer, the Forget Me Not is sent with love.

Rest in peace, Soldier, your duty is done.
